KFDM COOP Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 UH takes down A&M 4-3 to stay alive in regional COLLEGE STATION – The Houston Cougars needed 11 innings to deliver the knockout punch to Illinois-Chicago on Sunday afternoon. Fittingly, they went down to the wire in the nightcap against Texas A&M. Jake Stewart hit a RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the No. 3 seed Cougars to a 4-3 victory over the top-seeded Aggies, setting up a winner-take-all game Monday in the College Station Regional. The Cougars (42-23) will play the Aggies (45-17) at 6:30 p.m. at Olsen Field. The winner will play at Rice, which beat Texas 7-4 in the Houston Regional, in next weekend’s best-of-three super regional at Reckling Park. UH beat UIC 14-11 in 11 innings in Sunday's first elimination game. In the ninth, Caleb Ramsey drew a one-out walk off Travis Starling and advanced to second on a single by Blake Kelso. Stewart ripped the first pitch from Starling up the middle for the game-winner. UH freshman righthander Jared Ray, who picked up the save in Sunday’s early game, tossed his first career complete game. He allowed only five hits.
lonestar Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Nice comeback by Houston after last night's game. It is sad that A&M is the only Big XII team still alive. Very poor showing. If A&M doesn't come through tomorrow there will beno Big XII team in the Supers. Has that ever happened before?
TradinUp BH Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I don't have stats, but super regionals have only been around for maybe 10 years (not sure). I don't remember a big 12 team not being in atleast one. Big 12 way down this year. people going to other schools away from Texas I think.
TradinUp BH Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I like the old system where 8 teams went to a regional and the winner of the regional went to Omaha, this super regional stuff is kind of pointless.
