UNLV Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 MAC Expansion Rumblings: Temple & WKU There is a real possibility of the MAC moving to 14 teams in the very near future. According to college basketball insider Andy Katz of ESPN, the MAC is in discussions to bring in Western Kentucky and Temple for all sports. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up
TexasTerror Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 WKU would not leave the Sun Belt for the MAC... It's a load of hogwash and even many WKU fans would prefer not to leave. Outside of the SBC not having two bowl tie-ins, which they are working on, WKU is in a better league across the board. WKU actually won 50% of the league's 18 titles. Andy Katz is stirring the pot. Nothing leaves me to believe WKU is going to the MAC... And that would not open a spot for Texas St-San Marcos. The SBC does not want a medicore school and the schools in the SBC want nothing to do with the SLC schools. They left those schools once and many of them originally blocked the Gulf Star schools (TxSt and SHSU included) from moving into the SLC the first time they sought to do that. In fact, most of the main SLC schools got in only when those schools left, forcing the remaining school's hands...

The SBC does not want a medicore school and the schools in the SBC want nothing to do with the SLC schools La-Monroe... : Stop worrying Terror, UNT will be moving out of the Sun. SHSU will replace them and you will be able to look down your nose at Lamar in the SLC.
Guest coachacola Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 UNLV, sounds like you're still bitter over the plans for Lamar football. You really think Lamar will be in the SLC 10 years from now?
UNLV Posted June 4, 2008 Author Report Posted June 4, 2008 UNLV, sounds like you're still bitter over the plans for Lamar football. You really think Lamar will be in the SLC 10 years from now? yes...sigh. I know Terror. I know nothing would bring Terror more joy. Back on subject. MAC is ranked 12 in basketball, Sunbelt 17th(thanks to USA and WK, without them the Sunbelt would drop to SLC level...perfect for Texas st and SHSU) In football, MAC and Sunbelt are the 2 worse FBS conference. WK will go with the better regional fit, better basketball, and a more stable conference.
Guest coachacola Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 I don't think Lamar will be in the SLC 10 years from now. I don't even think the renovations to the stadium and the new fieldhouse will be the final upgrades they make. I think after all the other athletic facility renovations are complete then they'll push for more renovations to the stadium, like an indoor practice field, more seats, and a bigger pressbox. If WKU does join the MAC it will be because of money. The MAC does have a better TV contract for football, and it is a better basketball conference. If they believe the money will better in the MAC then that's where they'll go. If there's an opening in the Sunbelt then I bet they'd ask Texas State to join, no matter how poorly the do in their sports. The Sunbelt will see "potential" in Texas State: big metro area, large school and good athletic budget. But like the SLC, the best schools will always be looking to move up, so who knows what these conferences will look like 5 or 10 years from now.
