bruno994
Did you know....Not one team who qualified for state in '07 returned to state in '08 (pretty tough to repeat), Houston Bellaire ('60, '61, '62, '71, '72, '78, '86, '94, '99, '08) and Corpus Christi Calallen ('93, '95, '96, '98, '99, '00, 02, '03, '05, '08) have the most appearances with 10. Bellaire has 7 state titles in those 10 years, Calallen has 2. No-No's by local players in state history: Phillip Hennigan, Jasper (4A), 1963, lost to Dumas 2-0. Most runs in game 3A, Jasper (14), 2007. #8 on Top Hitter list for 3A, Chantz Pryor, Jasper, 2007, .625 avg. Just a few facts taken from the state tourney program. A bit of thanks goes out from the Buna Cougar faithful to those from our small town who made the 5 hour + ride to support the Coogs and also to some of our area coaches (ones I noticed (Jasper, Woodville and others I am sure I did not recognize), and also some local players who made the trip to not only support the Buna squad but also enjoy the atmosphere of the state tourney and enjoy the outstanding confines of Dell Diamond. j_dog
We were watching the records last year. Are these all the Jasper notes? For 2007, I think Jasper also scored the most runs for a tournament at 25 runs. They were already on the list of most appearances at state. Their stolen base production should have placed them second on the all-time 3a list. Maybe there were other categories? Just curious.
bruno994
Bythe book, the stolen base record holders' for 3A are: Individual, one game, 4, Brad Ficke, West, 1999. Individual, tournament, 5, Marty Pate, Linden-Kildare, 1985. Most by team, game, 16, West, 1999. Most by team, tournament, 22, West, 1999. As far as runs, it lists Jasper, 14, one game as record from 2007. Then aggregate for game, 24, Freer defeated Southlake Carrol, 13-11, 1990. It does not list most runs tournament by a team. Maybe I am missing that somewhere.
j_dog
.... It does not list most runs tournament by a team. Maybe I am missing that somewhere. No, my mistake. I just checked last year's progam. > Thank you for checking it out.

j_dog
.....It does not list most runs tournament by a team. Maybe I am missing that somewhere. I would bet money that IF they listed the highest total two game scores, Jasper would lead since they have the single best at 14, and had an 11 run game to go with it. Maybe if someone has friends at the UIL ... ;D
bruno994
No doubt, the only team close to them could be Freer from 1990, they scored 13 in the 'ship, so they could have come close, but I can't find what the semis scores were. Jasper more than likely owns that record as well.
bruno994
Another fact I missed...Biggest Inning, 8 runs on 4 hits and 4 errors, Beaumont South Park, 1951, in defeating Wichita Falls 9-2. South Park went on to win that years 5A title over Highland Park 2-0. Other local championships fall few and far between, best I can tell, in 1959, Beaumont won the 4A title over Fort Worth Paschal, 2-0. Then the next title by an area team was in 1983 Port Arthur Jefferson, with a 6-1 win over Corpus Christi Moody for the 5A title. Then in 2000, Evadale won the 1A championship over Cross Plains 11-0, Woodville in 2005, 2-1 over Holiday, and of course Jasper, 14-4 over Texarkana Liberty-Eylau, 2007. A bit outside our area we have had champions from Colmesneil (2003, 1990, 1986) and San Augustine (1987).

Just wanted to add this but BC repeated 05' & then 06'....but couldn't win....
