Guest mffl Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 He didn't accept it... but it sure feels good to say that and it was a decent looking prospect too. It is not often that a prospect from the 1A ranks, the smallest classification of 11-man football in the state of Texas, receives attention from Division I colleges. However, that is exactly the case with Burton offensive tackle John Hodde. Despite being a town with a population of only 359 people, a few college recruiters managed to make their way to the Central Texas school. It paid off for one of them when Hodde made a commitment this weekend. "I committed to Rice on Friday," he said. "They came and saw me at my school in the middle of May or so. Then I went to their camp last Friday and visited with the coaches for a while and it sounded like a nice place." Hodde had one other offer as well as a number of schools that were recruiting him. "Lamar University had offered me but I guess I'm gonna have to call them and turn that down," he said. "That was the only other school that had officially offered me. I had some other schools looking at me like Houston, Texas Tech, Sam Houston State and Arkansas. "A lot of them said they were thinking about offering me but they hadn't yet. I went down to Rice's camp and I just liked it and decided to commit." Hodde plays on both lines for the Panthers but says that his college future is on offense. "They're looking at me as an offensive tackle," he said of the Rice coaching staff. "They measured me at 6-foot-6 without shoes and 280 pounds. I've started on the offensive line ever since I was a freshman but this past year was the first time for me to start on defense." As a junior, Hodde was a first-team all-district selection at both offensive and defensive tackle. He also earned honorable mention All-Brazos Valley honors on the defensive line after totaling 27 solo tackles, 16 assists, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
Guest coachacola Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Woodard must be doing a lot more than just settling in and looking for coaches. It's good to see him already trying to put a team together.
AJ25 Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 even tho we got turned down, its def. a step in the right direction!

UNLV Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Rice, Houston(CUSA), Tech(Big 12), and Arkansas(SEC)... 4 FBS schools in a higher confetrence. Why would anyone consider Lamar(Southland Conference) over these schools?

Why would anyone consider Lamar(Southland Conference) over these schools? Playing time, new facilities, believes in the coach, or some other factor that maybe for most recruits wouldn't matter, but for some it does.

Why would anyone consider Lamar(Southland Conference) over these schools? Maybe the OL coach at Navarro was recruiting him. Besides i bet you almost half of the SLC teams could beat rice.

TexasTerror Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Rice, Houston(CUSA), Tech(Big 12), and Arkansas(SEC)... 4 FBS schools in a higher confetrence. Why would anyone consider Lamar(Southland Conference) over these schools? Get used to it, UNLV. The FCS schools do compete and actually beat some of these FBS schools on a consistent basis. There's numerous reasons a recruit chooses one school over another. Don't let San Marcos fool you, they aren't the only ones who compete and beat FBS schools in the recruiting wars. McNeese has constantly laid it to La-Lafayette for awhile now, among others. Maybe the OL coach at Navarro was recruiting him. Besides i bet you almost half of the SLC teams could beat rice. Nicholls St did last year. That option is tough to beat and Bailiff never figured it out while in San Marcos.
82 5A State Champs Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 No kidding!!! He's getting after it! He's gonna have to if tha Cards are gonna have half a chance at fielding a competitive team!
