The University Interscholastic League on Wednesday officially stripped South Oak Cliff of its 2006 Class 4A state basketball championship.

SOC forfeited the championship Jan. 23 after a Dallas ISD investigation determined that a player's failing English grade had been changed to a 73 before the 2006 regional tournament.

The player, whom WFAA-TV (Channel 8) identified as Kendrake Johnigan, scored 11 points in the championship game, a 76-58 win over Fort Worth Dunbar.

The game goes into the books as a 2-0 win for Dunbar, with all individual records erased.

SOC coach James Mays II declined to comment.

The UIL decision leaves SOC as the winner of three of the last four state titles.

The DISD has been investigating the validity of SOC's 2005 and 2007 state titles since January.

Calls to Pete Nielsen, the director of investigations for the DISD's Office of Professional Responsibility, were not returned Wednesday.

Fort Worth Dunbar awarded '06 hoops title in boys 4A

AUSTIN - Dallas South Oak Cliff's boys basketball dynasty just lost some of its lustre.

The University Interscholastic League on Wednesday formally stripped South Oak Cliff of its 2006 Class 4A state championship because of an ineligible player.

The UIL's action was expected after an investigation by Dallas Independent School District officials confirmed the violation.

UIL officials announced that Fort Worth Dunbar, the team that lost in the final 76-58, will now be crowned the 2006 champion. Officially, tournament records will list the game as a 2-0 victory by Dunbar.

South Oak Cliff had established one of the state tournament's great dynasties, winning four consecutive titles from 2005-2008.
