82 5A State Champs Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Top Fuel driver Scott Kalitta was killed today while making a qualifying pass in Englishtown N.J. I understand that his car drove off the end of the track into the sand pit and exploded. I dont know any more details, but I will post them as they become available. The Kalitta family has been instrumental in the growth of the NHRA, and Scott will be missed. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up
82 5A State Champs Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 I just saw the video of it. It appears as though, his car dropped a cylinder at about the 1/8th mile which caused the motor to explode. This explosion blew the body off of the car as it burst into flames. The car continued through the traps, on fire with the parachutes deployed, and hit a concrete retaining wall head on. That run actually put him in the field as the #13 qualifier. Scott Kalitta was 46. He leaves behind a wife and two sons. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up
