LU: Naming of Baseball Training Center

Upon motion of Regent Wilkinson, seconded by Regent Alcalá, with all regents voting aye, it was ordered that a) The President of Lamar University is authorized to accept and publicly announce a gift of $103,543.03 to the University from Mr. and Mrs. Henry Strait of Beaumont, TX; and In appreciation of this most generous gift to the University, its students, and the people of Texas, particularly Southeast Texas, the new Baseball Training Center shall be named The Emma and H. D. “Tex†Strait Baseball Training Center.

LU: Naming of Tennis Building

Upon motion of Regent Wilkinson, seconded by Regent Alcalá, with all regents voting aye, it was ordered that a) The President of Lamar University is authorized to accept and publicly announce a pledge of $300,000 to the University from Mr. and Mrs. Greg Thompson of Beaumont, TX; and In appreciation of this most generous gift to the University, its students, and the people of Texas, particularly Southeast Texas, the renovated tennis building will be named the Thompson Family Tennis Center and a new scoreboard and awning over the stands will be erected.

I think this was previously announced, but Dan F. Smith donated $5 million to the College of Engineering.

TxSt-SM: Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS)

Upon motion of Regent Amato, seconded by Regent Flores, with all regents voting aye, it was ordered that Texas State University-San Marcos be authorized to take such actions as may be necessary and lawful to become classified as an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) university, subject to approval by the Chancellor.

Anyone has an information on UTSA?  UTSA won't make it for 2010 if they delay too much longer.

The UTSA forum, once you get pass the Lamar is a nobody posts, is say UTSA will begin football in 2011.

1 year after Lamar starts football. So they have another yeart to find a coach. They think it will be RC Slocum...
