Guest coachacola Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 The center was built courtesy of $10.7 million from the state of Texas. In 1982, the state Legislature set aside more than $130 million to fund construction projects at 17 state colleges and universities outside of the University of Texas and Texas A&M University systems. There was a qualifier. Texas residents had to vote to abolish the state property tax, which had been a building fund source for the 17 schools at the time. When they did that in November 1982, Lamar University regents were ready to jump at the opportunity. What would it cost today to build the Montagne Center? $30 million? $40 million? The Montagne Center does need renovations after 25 years. How about removing some of the top row seats (which hardly get any use) and putting in luxury boxes. And a new video scoreboard is a must. I believe adding a practice facility is planned for the future. Whatever they do I bet they spend more than $10.7 million. Link: Beaumont Enterprise
Guest mffl Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I almost positive they'll get a new scoreboard soon. However, how much would it take to get one? I realize they are using alot of money to go into football, and the new practice facility but still, that scoreboard is about as outdated as it gets.
Guest abovetherim Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Video scoreboard that is first class, $1 million?
