Guest Its_All_About_Tha_U Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 July 9, 2008 John Talman HuskersIllustrated.com Editor It was a big day for quarterback Cody Green. After narrowing his list to two schools, Nebraska and Texas A&M, Green made his decision and delivered it on Wednesday. The decision came out – Green said he was going to be a Husker. "I had just been thinking about it, for let's see, three or four weeks now," Green said about why Wednesday. "I figured, it's time to do it right now. I had pretty much laid down the pros and cons of each school, and everything was the same, same, same until I got to playing time. I could sit the bench for two years, or sit the bench for one year. This year I've sat the bench almost the whole year because I was hurt and almost killed me." Another big factor in his decision had to do with the coaches recruiting him. Green was recruited by linebackers coach Mike Ekeler and future position coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson. "Coach Watson, he made it easier, I know that's hard to explain that," Green said. "Coaches, those are people you're going to be with 365 days of the year. I just had to make a decision that who did I feel comfortable with. And, we kind of looked at was which coaching staff would help me mature as a young man. I'm going to be coming in there at the age of 17, most 17 year-olds are actually going to be junior in high school - not freshman in college. "With coach Watson, just talking with him, I know as a 17 year old kid, most things don't come easy for 17 year-olds. Especially picking up a professional offense. When I went up there for the Elite QB camp, just talking with him, understanding things was easier. That's what made it easy for me." He said that along with head coach Bo Pelini, it was a fired up group of coaches when he made the call. "[Coach Pelini], he was fired up about it," Green said. "Coach Watson said that I made his year. Coach Ekeler is always fired up, but from just talking to him he said he's even more fired up about this." As to whether he not he's going to go back on his decision, Green says don't look for that to happen at all. "This is very solid," Green said. "The main deal me and my mom were talking about was once I make a decision, that's what I'm sticking to. There is no flip flopping or anything like that. "It feels like I have the weight of the world off my shoulders. It's turned more of the, 'when do you think you're going to make a decision' to 'how does it feel that you've made a decision.' It's a more of an easier laid back conversation." After having a chance to see current Nebraska quarterback Joe Ganz in action, Green is certainly ready to compete and learn. "I know Joe Ganz, from seeing him in action, he's a beast in my words," Green said. "I know I'm a dual-threat quarterback...With my size and ability, me coming in there, it's just a whole new twist on it." Green is ranked as the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the country and the No. 33 overall prospect in the state of Texas by Rivals.com.
