sbmom Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 just curious, can we bring coolers in to the parks? figuring a big fat no for ford park, but did not know about college street...

mjones830 Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Just Curious, last week the tournament director or person in charge seemingly changed the playing times that were sent to teams. Upon arriving at the tournament several teams found out that their play times had been changed and did not get to play their scheduled pool games. Are the playing times that we received from our coaches the same?
DAMan Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 just curious, can we bring coolers in to the parks? figuring a big fat no for ford park, but did not know about college street... since it is a city operated park, I would think you can bring whatever. No Weed, just water, gatorade.
Slam14 Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Just Curious, last week the tournament director or person in charge seemingly changed the playing times that were sent to teams. Upon arriving at the tournament several teams found out that their play times had been changed and did not get to play their scheduled pool games. Are the playing times that we received from our coaches the same? I hoped to hold this same question until the coaches meeting, but since you threw it out there we'll go with it and it's a valid question. The "HillGuy" posted an attachment that lists pool games from 8:00AM to 10:00PM BUT the coaches pool game schedule lists a round of games at 11:00PM AND 12:30AM!!  It also states that bracket play will begin at 8:00AM on Friday.  It would make it really tough on teams with late games on Thursday night (or actually Friday morning) if they were unfortunate enough to draw an early Friday game. Is that schedule correct?

MBB2 Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Not sure about everyone else, but we had a decent time out at the ballpark. Umps were adequate. BC group did a good job on Complex II concessions. Everything was on time. Not a bad day from what I saw. I find those 12:30am pool games interesting. Hopefully they can do something about that next year. Just drove by the fields and saw four fields not being used at 8pm...
AMP Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 While some were not happy about games and times being changed the TD seemed to be working hard trying to work things out. Crush (Jaynes) did have some changes but all worked out well. We got all our games in. I understand that the TD does not have control over NO SHOWS. That is beyond anyones control. Umpires that we saw today were very consistant. Thats all anyone can ask for. I don't know about anyone else but we had a real good time today. Our girls really played well.Â
slugo Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Everything is running smoothly, haven't heard any complaints! : : : : : I would suggest extra security on Saturday! Will say that the UIC is working his butt off to straighten things out.
HillGuy Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I heard there was a little scheduling chaos with no-shows, but we got our pool games off on-time and with no drama...umpires were fine. I didn't see anyone playing the 12:30 am slot when we left after our 11 pm pool.Â
MBB2 Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Today was a little different, but still not many complaints. No umpires for 8am game on Complex II. Thankfully one blue showed up early and jumped in to help. A partner showed up about halfway through, but was clearly out of his element. Tan shorts, no clue where to position himself. Good news is no real action came his way. Much more of a shaky effort today, but they're still rolling on. Hopefully they will keep it together.
darby Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 I went out to watch a few games today .I heard some complaining about the schedule change and the umpires.I just don't get it.I have been to several tourneys in the past where there were no shows, game delays, scheduling conflicts but the show went on.Why there was so much complaining i just don't know.It was mainly the 18 and under teams doing all the crying. The younger team were having a blast.I also talked to Rusty at the tourney and he was doing everything in his power to make it work. The most upsetting thing to me is when one of our local teams forfeited because of bad empiring. Is this the message we want to send to our kids is quit because something didn't go our way.Yes i admit the umpiring on that field really screwed it up but Ive seen it before even in our high school games. In a 3 game PLAYOFF you get screwed on a call you are going to walk off the field and forfeit the next one.I don't think so.The local team who chose to forfeit now just hurt another team who showed up to play. Now they have ti wait and the TD has to fill that void which now makes someone else mad.It a downhill chain reaction which effects everyone. We forget one thing that we are out there were the softball players can get better, get playing time.It wasn't all about winning.I think Rusty had great intentions and there should be some people stepping up to help other than to criticize.

Wasn't just the 18's. Saw two 14U's jump on an open field and go track down their own umpires just to get their game in. Saw another team play an unscheduled pool game opponent to get their last game in and avoid a midnight start... not sure if they told their original opponent or not. Know of at least four no shows, and in one case the bracket wasn't updated and teams were showing up for a walkover without any notice. Witnessed three different games delayed because umpires couldn't decide who was to go where. They were trying, but basically were at the point where they were throwing their hands up. Talked to two different teams supposed to be in the consolation bracket for Sunday morning. Not sure they were coming back because the bracket was not being filled out and no one knew where to go. One said they were showing up but had no clue if they'd have an opponent to play. We all liked the notice stapled on the wall at Complex II this morning. UIC is 'down' but here's the bracket and good luck keeping it straight in a tournament that has been snakebit. That's pretty much a direct quote. Lots of effort by everyone, and the games were still rolling on by the skin of their teeth, but an extremely severe lack of management. I think one poster from several days ago nailed it on the head- they may not have too many repeat customers next year.Â
darby Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Sounds like more went on than i even noticed,to bad for everyone.I just hope that SETEX isnt the one who pay the price, because i knowthat some of the organizations like GTS and Orange Crush,do a great job.Ronnie Cole also puts on a class tourney.Tiger 12 should have jumped in.He also knows how a tourney should be run.

Everyone was warned. Terrible thing that this had to take place in Beaumont. This guy was not capable of handing a tournament this size and now it reflects on Beaumont. Darby is was not Tiger 12's and any other locals job to jump in. One week before this tournament, I called RL and asked who the UIC was. He told me it was a local guy and gave me his number, That guy knew nothing about it, nothing at all. You don't try and get a UIC one weekl before a tournament. The one he ended up with left Friday night. I also know that TD was not around when teams went hunting him. Very unfortunate situation that had to happen in Beaumont. There was one team from FW that traveled in had motel and did not play a game because of scheduling. As far as a local forfeiting a game because of umpiring, Did you see some of it? They were making up rules.
MBB2 Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 The one he ended up with left Friday night. I also know that TD was not around when teams went hunting him. The notice they nailed to the wall said the UIC was in an 'accident' after leaving the fields Friday night. I don't wish ill will towards anyone, and I hope he's OK, but for everyone's sake I hope that was a truth and not a lie. Again, I don't mean that to read that I hope he was really hurt or anything... just that it wasn't a lie covering up the fact he turned tail and ran.
Guest BreakerCoach Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 Well when you have individuals like DAMAN and BHBLue warn you about something maybe its worth listening to. Im sure the best intentions were meant to have a successful tournament but... maybe Eastex can explain how they can tweak it to get it fine tuned.

Guest bigcat Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 The umpires in our games were all pretty good, and consistant. Congratulations to 18U Crush Jaynes and his girls, on a good finish .
MBB2 Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 How's this for a visitor's review... US Open in Beaumont was a joke. We played in this FIASCO of a tournament for the first and last time. 1. Field conditions. What a joke! There were holes in front of the pitching rubbers that we 8-12 inches below the playing field, and that is NOT an exaggeration! Just terrible! Not a drop of water put on ANY field at ANY part of the day. Just a sandy dust bowl! 2. Umpiring (or lack of) POOR POOR POOR to say the least. I do not know what is going on with the umpires today. There do not seem to be very many that pride themselves on doing it right! What I mean by that is not blown calls. They are human and they are going to make mistakes, but to be CONSISTENTLY out of position to make calls on the field is inexcusable. 3. Scheduling..... They claimed to have lots of teams bail out without paying. I was told that I had to have money there in order to insure my spot. Apparently that was not the case as they had to constantly shuffle the pools and brackets to accomodate teams that no-showed. I figure 70 teams showed up. $200 dollars a team is 14 grand. There was no reason NOT to have some sort of field crew out there! We will NEVER play in this again. Rusty (Royal Purples) strikes again! Terri Gunnels TC Softball
