cleanup13 Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 Mid County 17-18 lost to Louisiana team last night 8-4. The first inning was a disaster for Mid-County, who committed a pair of errors behind starter Aaron Bender. The right hander also struggled by hitting a batter and issued a walk. La led 7-0 after the first inning. Mid-County had their chances in the early innings but they couldn't cash in and left six runners on base in the first four frames. In the top of the first, Will Fontnow reached when strike three went to the backstop and one out later, Randall Courville singled to put runners at first and second, but La got Sampere to bounce into a force play and struck out Jon Carnahan to end the inning. In the third inning with one out, Fontnow drew a walk and VJ Bunner singled to put runners at first and second but the left from La got Courville to bounce into a force play and he fanned Sampere to end the inning. Aaron McFarland and Jude Vidrine drew two out walks in the fourth that prompted a pitching change. New pitcher got pinch hitter Stephen McDonough to bounce into a force play to end the inning. After the rocky first inning, Bender settled down and retired seven straight batters until the fourth, when La tacked on another run. Mid County began to creep closer in the sixth, as Carnahan (who has struggled offensively) launched a solo homer to righ-center to make the score 8-1 and Mid-County put together a final rally in the seventh. Ben Jones led off the inning by blasting a solo homer to left that made it 8-2 and Taylor Robichau followed with a base hit. Bunner then drew a walk. Courville reached on a infield single to load the bases with nobody out, but La came up with a defensive gem that quickly put a damper on Mid-County's rally, as La pitcher got Mitch Todd to bounce into a 5-2-3 double play. With runners now at second and third and two outs, Carnahan rifled a two-run double that made it 8-4, but La pitcher struck out Harrington to end the game. Carnahan was 2-4 with three RBI's and Courville went 2-4 in the losing cause. Bender went 3 2/3 innings in taking the loss. He allowed eight runs, six hits and had three strick-outs. Mid- County plays tonight at 8:00 p.m. agains the winner of South Texas (Tri-County) and Seabrook Arkansas. (This information was taken from the Sports section of the El Dorado News-Times)
Sportzcaster Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Hate to hear that. I played on these teams when I was 16-18 and we went to play in two BR World Series. They were great experiences, but we were just happy to be there. Hopefully the 16-17 yr. olds will work hard and come back next year and make it to the WS!
