KFDM COOP Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 More from Waco There’s still a chance Groves National could clinch a spot in Friday’s championship game with a victory Tuesday against D’Iberville, Miss. One way for that to happen is if Groves wins and Lubbock Western and South Lake Charles (La.) lose Tuesday. Or if South Lake Charles wins, then Groves would need to win a coin toss to secure a spot in the championship without playing a semifinal game Thursday. First pitch for Groves Tuesday is 1 p.m. Lubbock Western beat D’Iberville, Miss., 18-5, on Monday to leave both teams with 1-1 records. Teams with one or zero losses advance to the playoff round. The championship will be televised by ESPN. As many as five teams could still advance to the playoff round, which could make Groves’ road to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., a bit longer. We’ll sort out all the scenarios for you in tomorrow’s paper. In the meantime, click here to see tournament standings and results.
