Guest Kelly Football Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/site/news.asp?brd=2287 A couple nice defensive plays by Groves prevented D'Iberville from scoring more than one run in the first inning. A double and two singles off Collin Walker pushed across a run, and Groves trailed after the top of the first 1-0. That was the first time the team has trailed in three games at this tournament. D'Iberville's Tyler Quave might be the hardest-throwing pitcher in the tournament. He threw a four-inning no-hitter in the team's opening game Saturday, and he mowed down Groves' first three batters with strikeouts. This could be a long afternoon for the boys in purple. In the third, D'Iberville scored two more runs to take 3-0 lead. Quave faced six Groves batters through two innings and had six strikeouts before Groves' Drake Hernandez led off the bottom of the third with a single. Groves loaded the bases with two outs and scored on a passed ball. A strikeout ended the inning, and D'Iberville led 3-1 after three innings. Walker retired the side in order in the top of the fourth and Groves scored on another passed ball with two outs to make the score 3-2, and the inning ended with a groundout. Through the top of the fifth, Walker retired eight striaght D'Iberville batters. The scored remained 3-2 through five innings. Walker got the first two batters out in the sixth, but D'Iberville rallied for three runs to take a 6-2 lead. Groves went down in order to end the game. ---------------
