This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up SAN ANTONIO - Despite making a furious run in the final minutes, the South All-Stars could not overcome a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit, falling to the North All-Stars 109-103 in the 64th edition of the Texas High School Coaches Association basketball all-star game on Monday at St. Mary University's Bill Greehey Arena. The South trailed 93-76 after a dunk by North guard Phillip Colley of state champion North Crowley, before going on a 19-4 run to pull to within two points at 97-95 with 1:43 to go. A pair of free throws by Colley and a fast-break layup by Euless Trinity's Darren Houliston put the North back up by six, before Dulles guard Abel Galliguez hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 101-98 with a minute remaining, but the South would not get any closer. Amarillo Palo Duro guard D'Andre Williams was named the MVP of the North squad, scoring 19 points and adding 11 assists, while San Antonio Taft's Julian Boyd was the South MVP with 27 points and 18 rebounds. Galliguez shined the brightest amongst local players - he scored 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting and added three steals. He scored 14 of his points in the second half and hit 4-of-8 from behind the 3-point arc on the night before fouling out with 41 seconds left. "This was a great way to cap off my season," said Galliguez, who averaged 11.3 points and 4.1 assists to help lead Dulles to the 5A state championship game this season. "It was an honor to be here with the rest of the all-stars." Galliguez and his twin brother Thomas are both headed to John Brown University to play college basketball. Katy Taylor's Corbin Ray also impressed in the game, scoring six points and grabbing 12 rebounds (seven offensive) for the South. The THSCA all-star festivities continue on Tuesday with the North-South all-star football game at 7:30 p.m. at the Alamodome. Twelve players from the area are scheduled to participate: Cypress Falls receiver Darius Bolden, Waller defensive lineman Eddie Brown, Stratford defensive lineman Jimmy Burge, Clements tight end Walker Dille, Cypress Ridge defensive back Royce Hill, Katy defensive back Trent Hunter, Angleton defensive back D.J. Monroe, Livingston kicker/punter Drew Nelson, Lamar Consolidated defensive back Chuck Obi, Brenham offensive lineman Luke Poehlmann, Pearland center Brian Thomas and Montgomery quarterback Xavier Webb.
