Daly Co. has been selected to upgrade Cardinal Stadium at Lamar University in Beaumont. The design work includes general improvements to the 17,000-seat stadium, including the installation of premium suites and new concession areas, as well as a separate athletic field house with locker room facilities. The selection process for the project’s construction management firm is under way. Work is expected to begin later this year and be finished in time for the university’s return to college football in 2010. Lamar University discontinued its football program in 1989. The existing stadium had been used for the university’s soccer teams as well as local high school football games. “Reviving the football program has long been a dream of this university,†said Jimmy Simmons, Lamar University president. “The planned upgrades will bring us one step closer toward realizing that dream.†Leo A. Daly, based in Omaha, Neb., has 24 offices worldwide.

Guest coachacola Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Thanks HouTexan for posting this. Very good news indeed. The design work includes general improvements to the 17,000-seat stadium, including the installation of premium suites and new concession areas, as well as a separate athletic field house with locker room facilities. Looks like Lamar found the money to add suites in addition to the basic renovations of the stadium. I can't wait until we see the drawings.
BearWolf Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 great news. We are heading in the right direction.
TexasTerror Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Lamar getting up to the status quo from the get go... SLU is adding suites ahead of this coming season. Trying to think which SLC schools do not have them. SHSU put theirs in a few years back, McNeese has the Sky Ranch, NSU has got something (forget what they call it)...

TexasTerror Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Where as SHSU, in the endzone? SHSU suites are the bottom level of the press box. President's suite is nice-looking as well. They tend to have a nice spread in there -- and of course, the elevator is being installed for easy access to the top level of the press box (media area). Could use a few more suites, but perhaps that will happen with the next renovation. The end zone complex does have a balcony-type thing overlooking the field (good view for track and field, I may add) which is an extension of the athletic complex.

BigRed44 Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 Any news on when they will release the stadium plans including the suites?
AJ25 Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 starting off right! now all we need is some previews of what it is to look like!
Guest coachacola Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 Lamar is taking bids to remove asbestos from Cardinal Stadium and Higgins Field House. That project should be completed in late September. Hopefully they'll release the final plans for the renovations within a month or two.
Guest abovetherim Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 I've learned recently sometimes you have to wait for things unknown to work on your behalf and the reward will be well worth the wait. Once everything is announced every Lamar alumnus, administrator, faculty member, student, fan or friend of the university will be pleased with the results. I promise! ;D
HouTexan Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 That makes it even more difficult to be patient! ;D
