lonestar Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Alvin Brooks, former Lamar Cardinal and an assistant at Texas A&M is one of the names being mentioned to be the new coach at UTEP. El Paso Times UTEP athletics director Bob Stull talked about replacing head basketball coach Doc Sadler Tuesday afternoon, saying, "the quicker we can do this, the better." Sadler was named head coach at Nebraska Tuesday afternoon, forcing UTEP into an unexpected coaching search. In an afternoon press conference outside the Don Haskins Center, Stull said the only candidates he would discuss were the two Miner assistants Randall Dickey and Tony Benford. He said they would both be interviewed for the position. Stull said of his list that "some are head coaches and some are assistants." He also said, "We will try to do it as quietly as possible." Other names that have been mentioned are a pair of former UTEP assistants, James Holland who is now at Alabama and Alvin Brooks, now at Texas A&M. Former Arknasas and Tulsa head coah Nolan Richardson, a native El Paso, has also been mentioned by fans. Brooks was an assistant at UTEP under Billy Gillispie before moving to A&M with Gillispie. I've heard nothing but good things about Alvin. It would be nice to see a Cardinal in a position like this!
KFDM COOP Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Yes it would. And good luck to him as well.
