East Texas Standout Corey Garrett lists LU among a handful of other SLC teams:

Going into the summer, college coaches had no earthly idea that Center, Texas was even a city much less know where it is. After Corey Garrett made a splash with the Dallas Mustangs on the AAU circuit, the town that holds a Watermelon and Poultry Festival every year is undoubtedly a marked destination for the fall. The athletic 6-foot-8, 225-pound post man was a virtual unknown until now, but is now looking over a number of scholarship offers from programs seeking his services.

"It was my first year playing AAU basketball and I was really happy with what I did," Garrett said. "With the Mustangs there were a lot of scorers, so I concentrated on blocking shots and rebounding and that was key for me. I've gotten a couple of offers and it's awesome."

A whole host of schools have gotten in line - Garrett currently lists Stephen F. Austin, Centenry, Sam Houston State, Lamar, Houston Baptist, Tulane, Tulsa, Prairie View A&M, North Texas, and Tarleton State among his offers. Other schools such as Texas Tech and SMU have also shown interest. All the attention has come to Garrett in a hurry so he's still trying to figure everything out.

"I really don't know right now," Garrett said. "I need to take some (unofficial) visits and I'll be taking some soon to Stephen F. Austin, Centenary, Sam Houston State, and Tarleton State. I am looking to get a good school experience and also get a good education. I'd like to get in and start playing too."

Garrett indicated that he'd also like to go somewhere that has a reputation for developing post players. He's not sure if he will sign in the fall or wait until the spring.

Texas Hoops Analysis: COREY is a super raw but long and athletic post player. He has a bounce in his step and is active on the boards and on defense. His skill development has a ways to go but he is definitely intriguing and has a significant upside.

This coming recruiting class will be crucial since a lot of players will be graduating after this year.  I'm thinking with the changes in his coaching staff he'll be able to land some players who can come in and make an impact next year.
