FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference and MYTX 18, My Texas Television, based in Tyler, Texas, have agreed on the station serving as the exclusive East Texas affiliate for the new Southland Conference Television Network, league and station officials announced Tuesday.

“We are thrilled to announce the affiliate agreement with MYTX 18, which covers all of the East Texas television market, an area that’s very important to the Southland Conference,†league commissioner Tom Burnett said. “We appreciate the enthusiastic interest shown by the station’s ownership and management, and we’re excited that viewers in East Texas will get the opportunity to view this unique and innovative television offering.â€

MYTX 18 serves the Tyler-Longview-Lufkin-Nacogdoches Designated Market Area (DMA), and is affiliated with local CBS affiliate KYTX (Ch. 19). MYTX 18 is carried on cable systems in more than 50 communities in the region, which is also home to Southland member institution Stephen F. Austin State University. Also, Direct TV subscribers in the area can see the station’s programming on channel 18.

The station will carry all 36 telecasts of the league’s in-house television offering, including nine football games, 16 basketball games and a monthly magazine show, “Inside the Southland Conference,†which debuts in September. “The Southland Conference has a large following throughout East Texas,†said John Gaston, Vice President/General Manager of KYTX/MYTX. “We are very excited to offer this sports programming to our area. We feel that with the alumni support and fan enthusiasm, the programming will be very well received.â€

The Southland expects to announce numerous other affiliate agreements in the coming weeks.
