If WH gets anyone that can shoot and get a little of the pressure off Tyler they could go to the head of the class.HD will be in there 2nd year with Jason and he will get everything they have to give.I like Spurger's playoff chances with George staying in town but they will miss  Phillip and the 2 Sheffield boys more than they realize. They are gonna be pretty young this year.SP is a mystery,it just depends on which school of Sharks show up.Evadale may muddy the picture up with an upset or two and HI rounds out the district in the cellar. The bottom line is 3 playoff spots and 4 clubs who are pretty close.I'm gonna get a ticket and enjoy the season.Good luck to all the clubs.

Copeland is hands down the best and most dominate player in the district period. If he gets any help and if anyone else steps up like they are capable of then WH will be tough to beat and before anyone says anything please educate yourselves and learn how to properly spell and structure sentences. Let the fun begin!

Just wondering if anyone has any stats for Spurger's returning players?I have watched them a lot over the last few years and the bulk of there scoring came from Phillip and the Sheffield kid. Blankenship looked like he could score at times last year but I really don't know how many PPG or RBS any of the returning kids had.Help us out here courtside if you have info on George,McGallion and Blankenship.

I dont have any books in front of me from last year, but going on memory

George  12 to 14ppg, 10 to 15 rbs,  18 rbs against cayuga, 21 rbs against SP

Blankenship about 15 ppg coming off the bench, 8 rbs

Chase 8 to 10 ppg, 4 to 5 rbs, 10 to 12 assist pg

Chase and George was freshmen  and Blankenship a soph.

These guys are going to be a big part of the team, but just part of the team.

John Gossit a very good gaurd that hardly ever turns the ball over and shoots the three ball well

when given the chance.Key people that I think will move to the varsity(JMO)Todd,Kacey,Forrest

all shoot the ball very well. And a hard working, aggresive young man named Shane Rawls.

That is about the best I can give you right now whsalum.

    • This is good info. It doesn’t really break out for student athletes though. LP & (I think) DP are open enrollment because of the way the towns intertwine. That’s the way it’s been for many years anyway. I assume it still is that way. The kids have a choice after Jr. High to go to either High School because LPISD has elementary schools in DP. As I recall, DP didn’t want to build out more (Robin Hood issues), and so DPISD & LPISD came to an arrangement because LPISD is one of the highest givers to Robin Hood in the state, and it helped both keep more funds in district. Of course, LPISD is open to all. Not just DP, and LPISD is rated well. So, I assume they have kids from elsewhere also. Not positive though. They used to have a lot because—for decades—DeWalt was the only dedicated public school in the GHA that specifically catered to special needs kids. Families from all over enrolled. But, they didn’t participate in extracurricular activities like sports. So, LP’s total enrollment made them 6A. But, they were really a 5A school all along for sports program sake. This is all as best as I can recall from when I was more involved in school issues. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. My kids have been out for 20 years.
    • Our playoff rivalry. They hold a 6-5 edge in the series. I think Newton continues the win streak in a hard fought contest. What say y’all?
    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
    • It’s been awhile, but I seem to remember 5 D starters out & 2 O starters out (OL). A big difference is that Simon wasn’t involved yet. He’s totally changed LP’s rushing attack from last year as a bruising, explosive addition to Barnes, Sandolph & Bright. Last year—and early this season—LP was missing that element. Now, Coach Berneathy is not making talented players wait like many other coaches & even his predecessors at LP. If the kid can produce at the varsity level, they’re moved up. And man, has Simon produced! Over 1200 yards & 20 TD’s in less than a full season so far! It’s allowed LP to alternate RB’s where Barnes doesn’t take all the pounding. Barnes and Sandolph are also able to split out as receivers as desired to add threats that weren’t really an option last year. The PNG/LP game was a full-on tilt & good for both squads. I remember Gary Joseph in the end zone giving his son pointers as an extra set of eyes since he’d had experience with LP in past PO matchups. That was a good game. The score wasn’t really indicative of the game. Not sure anyone felt it was over until the final whistle! Good luck to y’all in Cajun Country. Bring back a win for SE Texas. (Yes. La Porte is still SETX. Ha!)
