Lumberton vs Bridge City:

Lumberton: Defense is very strong. They were in the BC backfield all morning long. BC only had 2 or 3 big plays and that was it. The secondary may be suspect though as BC had a few dropped passes were the receiver was wide open. Offensively they looked ok with the running game. Broke a few long runs here and there. Passing game was a little off but it's early so that should come around.

Lumberton Score:

Offense- C+

Defense- B

Bridge City: 1st thing is that the defense is MUCH improved over last year. They were swarming to the ball and wrapping up. One thing that may get them is that the linebackers were lining up 2-3 yards off the line of scrimmage the whole time. Lumberton could have eaten them up with play action passes. The offense needs a lot of work, but once again it's early. Just about all of their offense resulted in a loss or a gain of just a few yards. They had a few long passes but that was it. QB draws and HB draws didn't work.

Bridge City Score:

Offense- D

Defense- B-

Lumberton is big. BC defense looks better than last year. A couple of good pass plays by BC. Several sacks by BC. Did not hear a lot of that last year. Still not a big fan of the spread inside the 20. We did score from the 2 with it though. I hope for 4-5 wins this year.

Congrats to Bridge City and Lumberton both teams looked good today..Lumberton's lineman are pretty big I was surprised at thier size..The BC Defense looked very much improved I was impressed on how much better they looked now then this time last year! The Offense was okay they just need to fix a couple of kinks out..Im sure they'll fix everything by the time week 0 gets here...The O-Line didnt get blow off the ball, they just left too many holes for the lineman to go through..

I was at the scrimmage but I arrived a little late. The score was 1-1 when I got there. Lumberton is much bigger than BC. Their offensive line manhandled BC for most of the plays that I saw. BC's defense did look better than last year but Lumberton was too big to stop them for short gains. Lumberton gained 5-10+ yards on most caries. BC did get through a few times and stop them for no gain. Lumberton did not pass much but they did not look good at it. BC's offense is still suspect. However, the big defensive players that Lumberton has may have been the problem. Lumberton was in the BC backfield on almost every play. BC did not run the ball with any consistency. Most runs were for no gain. There was only a couple of passes that I remember being completed. One was a side line pass that went for no gain. The other completion was for a big gain. The play was executed very well. BC's defence was better than last year but Lumberton was much bigger and hard to bring down. BC's offense needs a lot of work still. If the line can learn to block better and give the quarterback some time maybe he wouldn't have to hurry up his passes and be able to complete a few. The running backs did not have much room to run at all. I think the spread is a very good offense if it is ran the correct way and if you have the right personnel to run it. I think your line needs to be big and be able to block well. I am not sure that BC has that type of personnel. Remember PNG tried it last year and did not do very well. The went back to the power game and won 7 of their next 8.

I think you have to give the Defense a little more credit..even though they were smaller than Lumberton they still made the big plays...This was a team that beat us 48-7 last year and today the defense took it to 'em...The Defense recovered two fumbles if i'm not mistakened..and One of them was in the red zone..Good job today guys keep working!

lumberton finally picked up their business with their second possesion on offense. driving the ball downfield fairly easily. did fumble at the goal line, and we had to back it up to the 30.. but once again, drove the ball right in. our dline is going to be a big difference maker in games. BC however was much improved.. even though they only had 1 or 2 plays of more than 15 yards, still much improved.

and this is meant with no disrespect..

ppl on earlier posts were saying if BC's line could give the QB time to throw the ball they wlda been fine.

well.. lumberton's dline will give everyone trouble, so i wouldn't expect BC's line to be able to stop them.

but i think BC will do just fine giving their quarterback time during district play.

Easy, easy Treasure, I am not trying to degrade the defense at all. They did do a better job than last year. There is a new defensive coordinator working with them this year and the improvement is apparent. I did see the two fumbles that BC recovered and one was inside the red zone. I could not tell what caused the fumble. A hit or mishandling of the ball. Either way it was good heads up for the defender to see it and recover it. Yes Lumberton did beat us last year 48-7. That was last year and a different set of boys playing. The defense was not our biggest problem. We did hit better than last year but it is hard for a 160-175 pound boy to take it to a 220-230 pounder. I do not know the weights of any of the players but that is what it looked like to me. Hey I think the defense did good considering we were playing a 4A team with bigger players. I'm just having a problem with the spread working at BC, that's all. JMO

Diboll defeated Hardin-Jefferson 14-3 in a scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Lumberjack Stadium.

Both teams were sluggish on offense the first part of the contest, but the Jacks scored two touchdowns in the last 15 minutes to take the win.

Diboll's defense did not give up a score until the final play of the scrimmage when the Hawks connected on a 43-yard field goal.

"We ran three types of defensive fronts today and we knew we would have some issues with one of them, but the main front that we'll use we did a great job with," head football coach Tom Sheppard said. "We gave up a lot of yards, but no scores. With the main front, we really got after them and they couldn't do anything about it."

Diboll's two scores came on a 16-yard run by J.J. Hubbard and a 24-yard pass from Jacolby Spencer to Cameron McCollum.

"We didn't do as well offensively the first 20 plays, but we got things going in the last 15 minutes," Sheppard said. "The kids have responded well and we've got things moving in the right direction."

Diboll got inside the Hawks' 20-yard line twice early in the scrimmage and came away empty. Hardin-Jefferson only got inside the Jacks' 20 once, as they moved to the 13. That drive ended with a missed field goal from 32 yards.

The field was very muddy and wet. Neither team could pass the ball efficiently due to the wet ball and it seemed like both struggled towards the end of the drives when it really counted.

I don't claim to know a lot about the spread or football in general, but to me dayton has been effective with a smaller athletic type O-line. I haven't seen BC but that may be what stump is going for rather he has bigger guys or not. the gaps are so much bigger with the spread I don't think real big lineman are entirely necessary. But, they do have to be able to block well like you mentioned and i'm sure that is improving daily with stump there.

Anahuac 2

HF         1

What happened to HF,They come out on the short end against a school 1/2 their size. They better hold to their helmets when K-Ville rolls into town Thursday.Any comments on what happened????

HF will be just fine remember this was just a scrimmage and Anuahac is no slouch, especially this year. They have a really good Coach and like 17 returning starters back from last year. I know this is an early prediction but I

will go out on a limb and say they will win their district this year.

Silsbee and their QB will be just fine when the regular season starts. They have an offensive line that has to come together. Nobody on the O line played varsity last year. If you want to see what the Silsbee QB is capable of log onto rivals.com and go to class of 2010 dual threat QB's and look at the highlight video. Make a post after that Gtj007.

I wonder if some of you were really at the Ned/Kelly/Silsbee scrimmage.  They really didn't do a first team/second team scrimmage.  They just rotated some 2nd team guys mixed in with 1st team.

Nederland:  Both Krautz and Grogan looked good.  Krautz got injured ( I believe he hyper-extended his right knee). Brady cought a long TD pass. I was pleased with the O-line, some nice big holes and pass protected well.  the D looked good only giving up a couple of gains of more than 10 yrds.

Kelly: I was surpried by how good their skill players were!!

Silsbee:  Isn't their QB supossed to be highly recruited???  WOW.  I was not impressed at all!!

i have to say that i am a raider fan but i do believe that bc did good against us at the scrimmage because of or size i do believe that lumberton is a bigger the then last year on d-line and on o-line i do think the offince needs alot more practice to be ready for district because its not good to be a walk in the park for any time in this district all i can say is i hope for the best for all setx teams it well be a good year for all.

if you read the posts.. two plays of over 15 yards the whole game for bc.

7 sacks by the lumberton defense on the first drive. (the first drive is a 15 play drive)

2 unforced fumbles for lumberton recovered by bc..

they stayed with them..?

BC did do a good job today dont get me wrong but get out of the spread u need a power I or somethin tht allows you to utalize the athletic ability tht u have not wat u wish u had.and from wat I saw Lumberton only used four or five of their run plays.and scrimmages allow it to be an alot closer game.Than wat it really could be

So if BC plays the other teams close this year it will be enough?  Sounds like many are questioning the spread in BC, is the spread dead?  Is the AD wishing he was back in Beaumont with his bubba?  He put a WB, I mean BC on the helmet.  Having an Aggie in family you'd think he understood tradition.  I guess week 0 will answer all, whatever that means.
