bullets13
this will probably be a recurring theme this season, but it definitely looks like they're taking some steps in the right direction.
TexasTerror
Not a bad showing IMO. What makes this "not a bad showing"...? The final score? Lamar actually getting a shot compared to 24 for the Red Raiders? Playing within four of the #7 team in the Big XII? Soccer is a weird sport if you did not go or watch on TV to get a good feel of "showing"...

I'm not sure "what makes a bad showing" in soccer but I'm pretty sure a 56-3 thumping in football with the starters of the winning team coming out in the 3rd quarter is a pretty bad and it could have been a lot worse. To answer directly we have a 1st year coach and a 2nd year program so I'm glad it wasn't worse. They may be a #7 team in the Big XII but I'm confident they would put a similar beating on SHSU. Soccer is a weird sport if you did not go or watch on TV to get a good feel of "showing"... What makes it a good showing is losing 4-0 to a team that would've beat them 10-0 last year. Losing 4-0 to the #7 team in the big 12 is a good showing when the year before they lost 5-0 to the #7 team in an extremely weak SLC. SHSU, was of course, that super strong #7, and is consequently picked to finish 8th this year. Yes, Lamar got dominated, but they bent without breaking. for Lamar to lose 4-0 against a middle of the road team in a strong conference is a good result, no matter how you try to belittle it. There isn't a team in the SLC better than Tech, so if the girls can keep improving, they should be in a lot more close games this year than last. I was just picking at ABR3 because he didn't say why it was a good showing...and wanted to see what counter-argument he had. I like to rattle him some because I know he is very proficient at basketball and football knowledge. Wanted him to break down the 'other' futbol for me... I am hoping the SLC soccer product is more improved this year. The win by UTSA over Houston was a nice win to put in the back pocket for the SLC. The Cougars were elusive last year, defeating SLC schools SHSU by 1 goal, TXST by 4 goals and UTSA by 3 goals last year. As to the reference by ABR3 that SHSU would not do much better, we have unfortunately not seen the Red Raiders since they narrowly escaped Huntsville with a 3-2 win in OT in 2005. Soccer is one of the sports that struggles at SHSU. Our biggest win was our run through the 2005 SLC tournament and a victory against Mississippi State in 2006. Perhaps a new coach can make a difference for us, just like you are hopeful they can for you...schedule is definitely built for a better record. RonBurgundy68
Exactly what Bullets said is how I feel... The whole thing about soccer, is in reality, the only way you can get better besides one-on-one time with the ball, is to play the best competition you can... You can practice all you want, but when you get put into a game situation against a better team, you realize exactly how fast the pace is, and how much better you need to be... I commend Coach Hardman on getting these type games for the team...

TexasTerror
Don't apologize bullets. The "just picking" is a cop out. TexasTerror meant every word and everyone knows his motivation. Must explain my compliments on the new futbol coach for being innovative and really liking his style in another post. I like where he's coming from and it may allow him to find ways to bring the best out of his players physically... You guys should know better. In OOC play, I'm a full backer of SLC schools. The only way to improve our league is to get the 'W' on the board, whether it VB, soccer, tennis, whatever... We've seen enough 10-0 blowouts in SLC futbol in OOC play. If we can curb those for all and throw more 'W's on the board, that makes me happy...
