KFDM COOP Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Volleyball squads find success Van Wade The Orange Leader DALLAS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears had a nice run in the prestigious Northwest Tournament in Dallas Friday and Saturday against some of the best Class 5A and 4A competition in the state, finishing the tourney 3-3 and winning the challenger’s bracket. Matches the Lady Bears won included Frisco (25-23, 25-22), Cleburne (25-14, 25-22) and Timberview Mansfield (25-19, 25-22) while the losses came against the likes of Weatherford (20-25, 17-25), McKinney (26-24, 19-25, 23-25) and Red Oak (14-25, 7-25). Christine Sicktich led the way over the six matches, posting 65 kills, 13 aces, 51 digs, 40 assists and three blocks. Other Lady Bear leaders included Shayna Sheppard (51 digs, 1 kill); Brittany Wiegand (3 aces, 40 digs, 1 assist); Carly Gauthier (1 ace, 4 kills, 2 blocks, 25 digs, 3 assists); Alexa Humble (2 aces, 22 digs, 51 assists); Maci Wilcox (14 kills, 4 blocks, 4 digs); Elissa Tate (9 kills, 3 blocks, 9 digs, 1 assist); Whitney Schoenberg (2 digs); Amy Laughlin (9 kills, 1 block, 3 digs, 1 assist); Caroline Armstrong (1 kill, 2 blocks, 1 assist); Jenna Procella (2 digs); Kellie Tilley (3 digs, 5 assists); Ashton LaVergne (9 kills, 3 blocks, 9 digs); Shelby Apperson (2 kills, 4 blocks, 1 dig, 1 assist); and Shelby Sanchez (5 aces, 1 dig). The Lady Bears (9-6) will play host to Port Arthur Memorial Tuesday with the varsity starting at 4:30 p.m. OF def. Deweyville DEWEYVILLE — The Orangefield Lady Bobcats downed the Deweyville Lady Pirates 24-26, 25-10, 25-15, 25-18 Friday night. Amimee Scales had 12 digs, nine kills and three blocks for the Lady Bobcats, Olivia Wagner posted 23 assists, five digs and three aces. Morgan Taylor notched 11 digs and five aces. Allie Beach had eight kills and Ashton Wagner had five while Haley Cole added seven digs. The Lady Bobcats (3-1) will play host to the Vidor lady Pirates Friday. BC def. Lumberton BRIDGE CITY — The Bridge City Lady Cardinals held off Lumberton in some tight games to nab a 13-25, 25-14, 27-25, 27-25 over the Lady Raiders in non-district action at Cardinal Gym Friday. Emily Kosh posted 21 assists, five kills and three aces for the lady Cardinals. Sara McPherson had 11 kills while Sara Armand aaded 10 and Amy Caillouet seven. Mallory Guidry finished with 14 digs for the Lady Cardinals (7-5), who will visit Beaumont West Brook Tuesday.
