Footballfan94 Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Just got up to check things out. Jumped on thw wunderground.com and checked out the computer models. As of 1am our time, 4 models lay on top of each other, all putting the storm in the middle of LA. Another is just to the west of those 4. Makes me feel a lot better. I think the update them again around 6ish. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up

I'd rather have my a$$ beat then be in that traffic!
westend1 Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Down to 120 mph. Channel 6 weather just said it will come ashore as a "2 or maybe 3". Dryer air is somehow impacting the storm. Sounds like good news for everyone.
Sobriquet Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Here are a couple of pages from the Houston Chronicle website that I've found to be helpful during hurricane season. The first is to the Sciguy blog. For the past three years or so that I've been following his tropical storm system analysis, I've found him to be highly reliable. He definitely knows his stuff, and does an impressively detailed analysis, and explanation, of all the relevant data. There are lots of other weather reports (and rumors) available, but this guy usually hits the nail right on the head. The second is to the tropical weather page. This sort of brings all the information together. You can go from there to details on any current tropical storm, including the latest computer models and official forecasts. Anyway, based on the latest information, I'm feeling increasingly confident that the SE Texas area, from the state line westward to Houston is going to be OK. The lastest Sciguy blog gives the details. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up
SteelerCzy Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 1000 a.m. update Channel 6, come ashore just SW of New Orleans as a Cat 1-2. Moving 16-17 mph means very little if any deviation from this course. Avg hurricane moves at 8-9 mph avg.
HoopInsider_Cooper Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Great news!!!! Very little gas up north.
stangchain Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 I'm glad we decided to stay instead of getting out in that traffic nightmare!!!! We didn't leave Orange until Friday AM the day Rita hit and there was NO traffic by that time. We went to Ft. Worth via all the back roads and had to make a few uturns to get around roadblocks, but traffic was not the problem.
WOSgrad Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 If you make it into Houston, traffic is fine. Drove from Katy into Downtown and west bound traffic wasn't even that heavy.
td Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 There isn't any traffic in Orange at all. ;D Not only that I just got word that the store at the corner of Park and 16th is still open and it's almost noon. Now that makes me happy.
stangchain Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 That's good to hear in case we want to get some ice this afternoon (and milk!!!). Wonder how many people are left in town?
td Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 I'm looking out of my office window on 16th and there are very few cars passing by. All of that may change at noon though.
stangchain Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Are you saying that there will be less or more cars after noon?
td Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Are you saying that there will be less or more cars after noon? I think more people will be out after noon but I still don't think there will be many.
td Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Everyone stay safe. I have to go to the store. ;D
piratefan Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 TD I stayed. If you need anything let me know. I always have extra beverages.. ;D
stangchain Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Pirate: Are there any hardware stores left open in Vidor?
