With Hurricane Ike bearing down on the upper Texas coastline, officials with Entergy Texas, Inc. are advising power restoration in the wake of the storm may take weeks.

“Hurricane Ike’s path has potential to cause massive power outages throughout our service area, both along the coast and in the areas we serve north of Houston,†said Joe Domino, president and chief executive officer, Entergy Texas, Inc. “This storm is also expected to create a huge storm surge, which will also impact our restoration strategy.â€

Although the eye of the storm is expected to make landfall in the Galveston area, its large wind field, combined with a particularly treacherous east side of the storm, will mean a hard hit for Entergy Texas. Once the storm has passed through the area, the first step will be to assess damage. Crews are prepared to move into Southeast Texas to begin the restoration work.

The neighborhoods in BC that are on or near the water are in deep trouble, I'm afraid. I will have photos up soon. There are several that already have water in them and you could literally see the water rising as we watched. Most of BC above Texas Ave is fine right now, but at the rate it's coming in, this early, it's pretty scary. We didn't go over to the Bayou Oaks addition, but all of the additions we went to near the water were pretty much in the same shape.

Looks like it Ike will land west side of Galveston Bay. Worst case for Houston downtown. Maybe as Greg said at the 8 pm stream. PA seawall might not be topped.

Vidor is smooth sailing. I am 4 miles North of IH-10 on FM 105. Some small gust no rain as you can tell still have power no generator on yet :-D

So far the Port Arthur Sea Wall is holding but as the winds go south as IKE makes Landfall around Gaveston expect some flooding in Port Arthur, keep your fingers crossed!

We made it to Pensacola this morning. We ran into some of the outer bands last night around Baton Rouge... It is pretty windy over here. We ran into very little traffic, but we did see some roads that were flooded out in Alabama. Hope everyone stays safe.

I was informed that the Neches River at Pine Street in the north end of Beaumont is starting to rise toward the street!

High tide for Galveston so the next 5 hours - they not only will deal with MAJOR surge, but high tide.

Surge at Sabine Pass is fixing to really go up as winds become S/SE then Galveston is next.
