HoopInsider_Cooper Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Houston Chronicle Sam Khan reporting: The University Interscholastic League has announced make-up procedures for games if Hurricane Ike happens to affect varsity football and volleyball contests this weekend. For football games impacted by Ike, the UIL is offering an exception to the five-day rule, which mandates that teams must have five days in between varsity football games. The exception would allow as little as four days in between games so that schools could make up missed games. The exception doesn’t apply to sub-varsity or junior high games. For volleyball, district games can be played on Wednesday or Thursday. Traditionally, district matches are played on Tuesdays and Fridays, but the UIL is allowing teams to reschedule Friday games earlier to avoid cancellation. The exception doesn’t apply to non-district, sub-varsity or junior-high matches. If school is out on Friday, any matches would be allowed on Thursday and no exception would be needed. So far this week, three high-school football games have been rescheduled. Nederland and Waller moved their game up one day to Thursday. Memorial and Pearland and Spring and Stratford have moved both their games up one day to Thurdsay and Friday, respectively. The last time a hurricane affected games was when Rita hit in September 2005. All area football games scheduled Sept. 22-24, 2005, were canceled or postponed.
