LITTLE CYPRESS — Jumping out of the gate with some flair, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears are off to a 2-0 District 20-4A start after making ck work of the Beaumont Central Lady Jaguars 25-13, 25-12, 25-13 at the Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The Lady Bears (16-7, 2-0) got on the right 20-4A footing last Friday when they downed the Port Neches-Groves Lady Rock-A-Noos in five grueling games.

The Lady Bears dominated the Lady Jaguars (0-1 in district) in quick fashion, trailing just once in the entire match at 3-4 in Game Three.

Once again junior standout Christine Sicktich spearheaded the Lady Bears attack and once again she had plenty of help from her teammates.

Sicktich powered her way to 16 kills, seven service points and an ace.

Ashton LaVergne was strong at the net as well, posting six kills. Maci Wilcox roamed for five kills while Elissa Tate had four and Jenna Procella added three.

LC-M's service game was on throughout too as the Lady Bears notched nine aces. Shayna Sheppard, who had a stout defensive outing, served up 13 points and had three aces. Brittany Wiegand had nine points and three aces. Carly Gauthier pumped out eight points and added three kills while Shelby Sanchez served up five points and two aces.

"Being 2-0 in district, that's where the kids want to be," said long-time Lady Bear head coach Vicki Castino. "Central played really well tonight but we moved the ball around well with a lot of assists and we hit the ball in perfect spots"

Nakeisha Washington had a nice outing for the Lady Jaguars, collecting nine kills while teammate Marguerite Sharp added four. Sharp also had three service points while Shametriss Mose had two points and an ace and Destyni Jubert had two points and an ace.

Next up for the Lady Bears, the District 21-3A favorites Silsbee Lady Tigers on the road Friday in a non-district tilt.

"Silsbee has such a strong team, so it will be a good test for us," said Castino. "It's a good match to have with district going. You need as many good tests as you can get. We feel like we're on the right track, especially with the win at PN-G last week. There are plenty more tough teams in our district. I keep telling them one bad night and you can get beat. I'm very proud of them tonight. They came out focused and ready to go."
