The proud stadium, which is now undergoing a major facelift, will then have a new name, but Tubbs assures Cardinal will still be attached to it.

So, on this 44-year, plus-one-day anniversary of its opening, here's a toast to Blankety-Blank-Cardinal Stadium. May you host many more historic Lamar moments.

With Harold LaFitte scoring the first points in stadium history on an 11-yard run midway in the first quarter, Lamar went on to a 21-0 victory over East Central Oklahoma before a crowd estimated to be at 15,900.

Good ole ECU (as they prefer to be called) -- SHSU played them this year! Perhaps LU can get them on the slate in the future, perhaps for the 50th anniversary of Cardinal Stadium.
