No, but I have heard we are looking to add women's bowling. Please don't do this as it may add 5 or 6 scholarships. They need to add softball for many reasons but they are looking at the cost of starting a program from my understanding.

Well, add a coach like Woodard, Roccaforte, Tidwell and Hardman and there will be supporters for the program. This area is rich in talent and with the right coach the Cardinals could have a successful program.

What if you guys are going to be in the hole big time with football, that you need to add both bowling and softball? Bowling is the cheapest one and can be added first. Softball includes a stadium and all that riff-raff that make it harder.

Best thing about bowling is that SHSU is adding bowling! We could use Lamar. It'd add to the "South States Bowling Alliance" I'd like to see with Arkansas State, Tulane, La Tech, SHSU and hopefully Lamar! Heck, let's add Vanderbilt to the list too...this would provide for a "conference tournament" and a group of schools willing to host tournaments and invite the others...because really, the HBCUs (MEAC and SWACs) dominate the bowling scene.

You make some great points TT but even if we add bowling I want softball as a part of our athletic program. It is in our master plan and with all the talent in the area it only make sense. Plus, Ford Park hoist some of the best softball teams in the country during their tournaments. So the coach wouldn't have to travel far to see some very talented softball players.

Just a pet peeve - but it is not Lamar Beaumont it's Lamar University!

Yep -- unlike the other Lamar schools which are components of Lamar University, there's no city. Here's the official listing of school names and let's make sure to throw in that "-San Marcos" in for that school that fought so hard to get that in there... :)

    *  Lamar University

    * Sam Houston State University

    * Sul Ross State University

    * Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College

    * Texas State University-San Marcos

    * Lamar Institute of Technology

    * Lamar State College-Orange

    * Lamar State College-Port Arthur

The other Lamar "components" in Orange and PA are two year colleges. Don't really care to debate this issue but calling Lamar University, "Lamar Beamont" would be like someone calling SHSU, "Sam Houston Huntsville".

Main thing for me is the guy posted on the Lamar Forum. Perhaps he'll venture over more often.

Well, here is to clearing the air!  8) 8) 8) Glad, we got all that corrected.

Lamar State College-Port Arthur, Lamar State College-Orane and Lamar Institute of Technology once were part of the Lamar University System, which no longer exists. However, the four schools are independent operations.

My diploma from Port Arthur has Lamar University-Port Arthur. So, they were "components" at one time. As a matter of fact, I've attended each campus except LIT.

Thanks for the clarification. LSC-PA has really grown since I attended the school. Best of luck to the Seahawks!

So who cares about bowling at Lamar Beaumont. I think there would be a lot more following for softball than there would be for bowling. Come on folks lets get softball at Lamar Beaumont.

As I said, nothing against softball, but LU may need both to satisfy Title IX -- unless you want to cut men's tennis -- thanks to the addition of football. Bowling is the cheapest sport, so that sport could be added with softball not too far behind it. Remember, with Title IX, your softball facility, better not be too big a drop off from baseball. So, if you are going to put some good money into Vincent-Beck, get ready to pay up for softball!

Wonder if the axe of tennis is on the table right now at the Montagne Center...? Guess, you could always axe men's golf instead of tennis? Well, I'll stop before I even dare touch that can of worms! ;D

Uh, that would be like taking the axe to SHSU nationally known Track and Field team.  ;D

Lamar is planning on building one field house for baseball, softball and soccer so I'm sure the softball facilities will be just fine for Title IX.  I doubt Lamar will cut any sports.  I think they are reducing the size of the men's track and field team to compensate for the men's tennis team.

Axe our track and field program, we wouldn't have enough sports to be Div I anymore!

May need to add rifle, which is a full championship sport -- in addition to emerging sports like archery, badminton and team handball.

What about the field itself?

And reducing the size of men's track and field team? They didn't have many scholarships to begin with. I think men's tennis has 4, 4.5 or something thereabouts. Not the whole team is scholarshiped compared to women's tennis where you can have eight.

I have heard they (Lamar) were thinking of dropping tennis but I'm sure it is only rumor.
