KFDM COOP Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 From smoaky.com Longview to forfeit win against Evangel... Longview athletic director Pat Collins confirmed the Longview football program will forfeit their 52-22 victory against Shreveport Evangel. Apparently, after checking his roster following the Evangel game, head coach John King discovered a player, who was on the roster who no longer had eligibility, played in the fourth quarter, one play. Collins said Longview self-reported the violation, and it will go before the district committee. If the forfeit stands, Longview's record will drop to 3-2. Longview athletic director Pat Collins, appearing on David Smoak's Sports Talk on KTBB Radio said, "this was an honest mistake, but we want to do what's right, and I met with the Marshall superintendent, who is our district chair, and told them of our violation."
stangchain Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Obviously, the kid didn't make the difference in the game.
Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Obviously, the kid didn't make the difference in the game. yeah i know right. Thats crazy
Jasperfan Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 The coach did the right thing though. Take care of it before someone else takes care of it for you. Plus, it's a teaching opportunity to show the players that doing the right thing sometimes sucks.
purpleeagle Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 No, the coach did not do the right thing. He should have well know before the game that he had an inelgible man. That's part of his job. There was a breakdowm in the school system. The coach let the whole team down.
westend1 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Not very important, one way or the other. Kids know they won the game and the loss hurts them not one bit.
bmtdc1996 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 The coach screwed this one up, the kid should never have been on the team in the first place. In my opinion, there is no "consolation" knowing they won the game on the field. It still goes in the books as a LOSS.
DHS Grad 95 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 ??? ??? ??? How could the kid be ineligible? The six weeks ends today. Everyone is eligible until next Friday... Weird!
DHS Grad 95 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Ah... just read that the kid was a 5th year senior... :
bmtdc1996 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Oh yeah! Redshirt seniors....everyone has them on their rosters.
stangchain Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 LOL. In that sense, yep, the coach should have known that!!!!

The coach made a mistake in letting the kid play, but he did the right thing afterwards. This is a great lesson to all those young men...if you mess up, you gotta fess up.
