Lady Cats net victory over Lady Cards in 5

ORANGEFIELD — In one of the most thrilling matches of the season, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats pulled off a huge win Friday afternoon against the Bridge City Lady Cardinals.

The Lady Bobcats and Lady Cardinals fought toe-to-toe for five-grueling games until the Orangefield pulled off an 18-16 win in Game 5.

Orangefield won Game 1 25-20 and Game 3 25-23 while Bridge City notched a 25-22 win in Game 2 and a 25-21 victory in Game 2.

The Lady Cardinals, now 0-2 in District 21-3A play, held early leads in Game 5 before the Lady Bobcats stormed back.

Bridge City opened up a 7-2 in Game 5 behind the serve of Destiny Garza. Garza hit for four straight service points.

The Lady Cardinals then went up 13-9 and needed just two more points for the win.

Orangefield, 2-0 in district play, got huge kills from Allie Beach the rest of the way and came out on top.

Beach finished with 11 kills and five aces. Olivia Wager had 18 assists in the match. Aimee Scales put in five kills while Kaitlynn Henson finished with seven kills.

Bridge City’s Sarah Armand also finished with 11 kills while Emily Kosh led the match with 21 assists.

The Lady Bobcats raced out to a 9-1 lead in Game 1 as Kaitlynn Henson brought in six straight service points.

Orangefield took advantage of 15 Bridge City errors in the game.

Bridge City clawed back when Kosh stepped in to serve. The Lady Cardianls were down 16-12 but six straight service points, including four aces, put Bridge City up 18-16.

Henson then hit for four straight points as Orangefield took a 21-18 lead and never gave the lead away.

Beach struck with an ace for the game’s final point.

Game 2 was just as thrilling as Game 1 as the two teams stayed close within each other.

Bridge City went up 23-20 as Sam West, who finished with 10 kills, put down two points.

The Lady Cardinals’ Bria Thibodeaux then hit for an ace.

Orangefield made it 24-22 but a Lady Bobcats’ shot found the net to give Bridge City the win.

Game 3 was one made for ESPN Classic as Orangefield grabbed the lead for good at 3-2 and would later take a 11-point advantage.

Bridge City’s Sara McPherson, who had 10 kills and seven aces, then served for nine straight points as the Lady Cardinals got to within 24-23.

Armand hit for four straight kills at one point in McPherson’s serve.

A Bridge City error was the final straw as Orangefield won 25-23.

Beach helped give Orangefield such a big lead with five straight points at one time as the Lady Bobcats led 24-13.

Bridge City gained control of Game 4 with Thibodeaux on serve as she put the Lady Cardinals up 11-5.

Scales brought the Lady Bobcats back to within 11-8 with an ace a few plays later.

Wagner closed Orangefield to within 18-16 with two straight points but Bridge City was able to hold off and win Game 4 25-21.

Then in Game 5 it was Wagner again who came up big in the last parts of the match.

The game was tied 16-16 before Wagner came up with a kill and then finished the match with an ace.
