KFDM COOP Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 Lady Cardinal Basketball 2006-07 Schedule Oklahoma set to play at LU on November 29 Aug. 14, 2006 BEAUMONT, Texas - Fifteen home games, including a showdown with national powerhouse Oklahoma at the Montagne Center, highlight the 2006-07 schedule for the Lamar Lady Cardinal basketball team, announced Monday by head coach Leonard Drake. The 2006-07 home schedule features 15 regular season home games, seven non-conference and eight Southland Conference games, plus exhibition games with the Houston Elite on Nov. 3 and the Houston Jaguars on Nov. 6. The Lady Cardinals open the season at home on Sunday, November 12, when they host New Mexico State at the Montagne Center. It will be the first meeting between the two programs since the 1993-94 season. After tipping off with NMSU, the Lady Cards will host Alcorn State on November 14. The first road trip of the year will send Lamar to Colorado, where they will face the University of Denver and Northern Colorado on November 18th and 20th. Lamar closes out the first month of the season with two home games, taking on LSU-Shreveport on Nov. 25, and hosting national powerhouse Oklahoma on Wednesday Nov. 29. The month of December has LU playing just three home games, as they round out their non-conference schedule. Lamar will host Belhaven on Dec. 2, and welcome Chicago State and Albany to the Montagne Center on the 28th and 30th of the month. The three home games are sandwiched between four road contests in December. The Lady Cards take on Centenary in Shreveport, La. on Dec. 5, travel to Indiana University-Purdue University Indiana on Dec. 13, take on Alcorn State in Lorman, Miss. on Dec 18, and face Tulane in New Orleans, La. on Dec. 20. "This is arguably one of the toughest schedules we've had since I have been coaching here," Drake said. "Obviously there is the marquee opponent in Oklahoma, but New Mexico Sate and Chicago State are going to make for a strong home schedule. Our road schedule is going to be challenging as well, with return games at Denver and Northern Colorado and a trip up to Indiana to face a tough IUPUI team. "Our schedule is going to be challenging, but we have seven letterman and a strong recruiting class. I feel like this is a team that can handle this type of schedule." Southland Conference play gets under way on January 6, when the Lady Cards host the University of Texas-San Antonio. The conference schedule has the Lady Cardinals hosting eight games and playing eight road games. Lamar will play home-and-home series with East division foes McNeese State, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana and Central Arkansas. The Lady Cards will play home games against Texas-San Antonio, Sam Houston and Texas-Arlington and road games at Stephen F. Austin, Texas State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The SLC Tournament is returning to a neutral site and will be contested March 7-11 at the Campbell Center in Houston. The top two teams from each division and the four teams with the next-best conference records will comprise the field for the eight-team postseason tournament. The tournament winner will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Season tickets for Lady Cardinal basketball are on sale now.
