KFDM COOP Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Lady Cardinals fend off WO-S Van Wade The Orange Leader BRIDGE CITY — Getting to play a real match in their gym for the first time since Hurricane Ike came, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals got all they could handle from West Orange-Stark before they finally got past the Lady Mustangs in four tough games. Using an extremely balanced attack, the Lady Cardinals picked up their first District 21-3A win of the season, downing the winless Lady Mustangs 18-25, 25-16, 25-11, 26-24. Sara McPherson and Sarah Armand paced the Lady Cardinals (1-2 in district) with 10 kills apiece. Jordan Royal and Samantha West contributed nine kills apiece while Marlee Lopez had six kills and Emily Kosh added five. Marcquishola Solomon had a superb night for the Lady Mustangs, posting a match-high 11 kills. Teammates Ishaneka Gant and Johneshia Sims added five kills apiece. The Lady Mustangs (0-3 in district) took advantage of a slew of BC unforced errors to nab Game One. WO-S, led by the hitting of Solomon and Gant, broke away from a 6-6 tie to finish the game with a 19-12 run. The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a commanding 20-7 lead in Game Two. The Lady Mustangs got as close as eight points but Lopez finished the game off for BC with a smash. BC dominated in Game Three, building a quick 12-point lead and never looking back thanks to the hot hand of Royal and West. It look liked BC had total control in Game Three behind the swatting of Armand, who had five kills in the game. BC built up a 20-14 lead but Solomon led a late WO-S rally and the Lady Mustangs actually were able to grab a 21-20 advantage. However, the Lady Cardinals regainied their composure, scoring six of the final nine points. Kosh had a superb night in the service game, collecting 14 points and five aces. Maggie Stump notched 13 points and two aces. Bria Thibodeaux had eight points and an ace. McPherson posted six points and three aces and Mallory Guidry had six points. Sims served up 12 points and two aces for the Lady Mustangs while Kristen LeBouef had six points and two aces.
