LamarStatesports Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 The Lamar State College-Port Arthur women’s softball team will close out their fall scrimmage schedule on the road Saturday with a doubleheader against Angelina College at Ladyjack Field in Diboll. The Seahawks are 4-0 since they resumed their hurricane-interrupted fall schedule Oct. 4 at the Louisiana State University-Eunice fall tournament, where they topped Baton Rouge Community College, 8-3, and shutout the host LSU-E Lady Bengals, 2-0. This past Saturday, Lamar State swept a doubleheader with LSU-E, 4-3 and 6-2, at Ford Field in Beaumont. The Seahawks led most of the first game, but allowed the Lady Bengals to tie the in the seventh inning to force extra frames. In the eighth, Seahawks second baseman Jenna Angelle drove in the tying run and then scored the winning run on a hit by her sister, third baseman Lauren Angelle. The Seahawks were down by two runs early in the second game, but rallied in the third inning to score six runs. Lamar State head coach Vance Edwards said he sees improvement each time his team takes the field. “Once again, we had excellent pitching, good offense and pretty good defense in both games,†Edwards said. “It was an excellent team effort all day. They never gave up. Five of the runs in the second game were scored with two outs.†Shandi Conner and Alison Heidbreder combined for the win in the opener. Shauna Kelly had another excellent outing in relief of starter Nikki Morace in the second game. Kelly had 14 strikeouts in her previous appearance and recorded another 10 strikeouts while allowing no runs. The Seahawks kick off the spring at the Feb13 Galveston College Invitational Tournament. They also will play in the Cowtown Classic Tournament in Fort Worth and several non-conference games before beginning Region XIV competition March 11 at Angelina College.
