From Sunday's Bob West article:

Adding Dr. Mark Honea to his coaching staff has proven to be productive beyond Lamar basketball coach Steve Roccaforte’s wildest dreams. Not only has Honea been invaluable in working with players from an academic standpoint, he’s primarily responsible for Lamar’s impressive, new state-of-the-art weight room for men’s and women’s basketball. Honea heard Roc and women’s coach Larry Tidwell talking about finding donors to underwrite the $50,000 project and said he’d like to help. Instead of soliciting donors, he wrote a check that covered roughly 80 percent of the cost. As a result, LU basketball players work out in the John M. Honea and Ruth W. Honea strength and conditioning center. “I was shocked when Mark did that,†said Roccaforte. “It just shows how much of a Lamar guy he is. He went to school here and now he’s given back something that will benefit Lamar basketball players for years to come. To have something like this is an unbelievable benefit for both the men’s and women’s programs.â€

LU football coach Ray Woodard is certainly following through on his pledge to build his program around players from Southeast Texas. In addition to verbal pledges from the Mid-County duo of PN-G quarterback Harrison Tatum and Nederland’s sure-hands wide receiver Asa Cardenas, Woodard also has commitments from Jasper QB/athlete Dominique Bailey, and the Hamshire-Fannett duo of defensive end Jake Koehl and offensive guard Sequoia Harry. And there’s more to come.

Great news on both fronts.  Now it's time to here some news on the football stadium.  It's almost November and they still haven't unveiled the plans and started working on renovations.  The clock is ticking.

And this from his article:

Tryouts for the Southeast Texas Mustangs, the area’s new minor league pro basketball team which will call Ford Park its home, were expected to have a distinct Lamar University flavor this weekend. Among the former Cardinals hoping to be a part of the Mustangs are three members of last year’s SLC regular season co-champs — Lamar Sanders, Darren Hopkins and Currye Todd. Another LU ex hoping to make the team is Brandon Chappell. It’s also rumored that 7-0 James Davis, who dropped out of Lamar last year to try and play in Europe, might hook up with the Mustangs.

If these guys make the team, how about a scrimmage between LU and the Mustangs?

Wow, with all those former LU players, I might have to make some of those games... it would be smart for the Mustangs to put them on the team if they want more support.

Also, didn't know this Jasper Athlete had committed to the Cards, anybody have any info on this kid?

Actually, Bailey is not having a good year this year. He is playing the QB position but he is far from a quarterback. He is very small also, '5"8 160lbs. He would probably make a good slot reciever, but he hasn't played that position.

I'm guessing that's Boo Sanders... anybody know how Alan Daniels been doing? It's only been 4 years ago that he was playing for us, scoring sooo many points... if only he had a Kenny Dawkins and Lamar Sanders on his team... gahhhh.
