Lamar1996 Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 As a fan, who cares!! I do hope all the seniors enjoy their last two games though. I am really upset for the PNG seniors. They had a great group to work with just really BAD coaching.

KFDM COOP Posted October 30, 2008 Author Report Posted October 30, 2008 PN-GROVES AT BEAUMONT OZEN KICKOFF TIME The Port Arthur News • When: Friday, 7:30 p.m. • Where: Durley Stadium, Beaumont • Records: PN-G 3-4, 1-4; Beaumont Ozen 1-6, 1-4 • Series: PN-Groves leads 6-1 • Last year: PN-G, 21-19 • Radio: KCOL-FM (92.5) • Indians capsule: How agonizingly close coach Matt Burnett's Tribe came to staying in the 20-4A race in its overtime loss to Lumberton last week. PN-G got up 10-0 but never could put up enough stop signs to get its defense off the field. Indians only had the ball 12:52... PN-G managed a season-low nine first downs, including a Harrison Tatum scoring pass to Spencer DeRon, and a 48-yard rushing night from fullback Caleb Harmon.... New defenders to sparkle and shine included junior Dre Dunbar at right corner, and the tandem of Ryan McLin and Dillon Harrison at right end. They filled the vacancy of RE Aaron Shetley (knee). The fellow senior end, Jerin Spikes, has been a defensive leader all year for coordinator Carl Broussard's platoon. Tribe coaches also have praised the work of improving senior corner Tyler Gizzi on Spikes' side. • Panthers capsule: Central limited coach Ishan Rison's Panthers to a season-low five first downs and 37 rushing yards in the 36-7 Jaguars victory last Friday. Although the offense is 7th among the eight league teams at 239.3 yards a game, receiver Willie Jefferson is tied for the 20-4A lead in most receptions with 27... Teammate Anthony Lee is right behind Jefferson with 22 catches... Senior QB Marquis Moore stands 3rd in 20-4A passing numbers with 690 yards... Two Division I pledges have anchored the defense -- middle linebacker Justin Isadore (TCU), and strong safety Breon Johnson (UTEP) but an injury sidelines Johnson from playing tonight... LU pledge John Prescott has been a strong anchor on both lines.... • Burnett says: "Ozen is very athletic and they play pretty good but they haven't had any breaks at all. They impress you with their speed on both sides of the ball. And they're more athletic than I thought they would be after looking at them on video... We played extremely hard and gave a great effort against Lumberton. We didn't score enough points and it was a heart-breaking loss because it was one of our better games all season, especially on defense....We're happy about (Ryan) McLin joining (Harrison) Tatum as commitments to Lamar and we really thought McLin did a great job on defense for the first time (in place of injured RE Aaron Shetley).†• Rison says: "We're both in the same boat. We both have pretty decent teams and we have no idea why our records are the way we are. It's been turnovers and plays which could have worked out the other way for both teams. That's just how it goes sometimes. We have watched the Indians and they look impressive on video.... We know exactly how they feel because a play or two in this game and that game has gone the other way. We probably would have been able to win those games. And coach Burnett's team has had a season that's gone the same way.... We both had a play or two against Lumberton that went the other way. We had that same sort of opportunity deep into our Central game but we also need to have a more established program to put us in a better position to be successful in the future.†PN-G OFFENSE SE -- Kyler Segura (45) LT -- Ryan McLin (51) LG -- Lindon Hightower (72) C -- Tanner Ross (55) RG -- Dillon Harrison (67) RT -- Stephen Savant (75) TE -- Jerin Spikes (80) QB -- Harrison Tatum (8) FB -- Caleb Harmon (7) TB -- Josh Wright (9) FL -- Spencer DeRon (19) OZEN DEFENSE LE -- John Prescott (70) LT -- Tim Stewart (51) RT -- Terrell Raville (28) RE -- Jared Lee (44) SLB -- Ricky Francis (25)
