Week eight of the 2008 high school football season is over and it's time to check out how the Frogs 15 commitments faired. Their teams combined for a 9-3 overall record including a win over one of the state's top ten teams.

That honor goes to the Waco Midway Panthers who after an opening loss to Alvarado, have reeled off 7 straight wins. Last Friday had to be the highlight of the year as they dominated previously undefeated and #9 Ennis. The Panthers piled up 273 rushing yards in the win and moved into the drivers seat in 16-4A with a 5-0 record. Ty Horn paved the way collecting 10 knockdowns and 5 pancakes. For his efforts Horn is this week's Purplemenace.com commitment of the week.

 

Ty Horn

School: Waco Midway

Ht: 6-5 | Wt: 290

Team record: 7-1 (#9 class 4A)

Last week: W56-31 vs. Ennis

Game stats: 5 pancakes, 10 knockdowns

2008 stats: 40 knockdowns, 33 pancakes

After an 0-1 start, the Panthers have reeled off seven consecutive wins and sit in the drivers seat in 16-4A with a 5-0 record. Horn has possible his best game of the year in the win over Ennis, who was previously #9 in class 4A.

Casey Pachall

Position: QB

School: Brownwood

Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 190

Team record: 3-5

Last week: L41-59 vs. Graham

Game stats: 22-of-36, 315 yards 2 TD; 63 rush yards 1 TD

2008 stats: 144-of-218, 2,259 yards 27 TD's; 514 yards 6 TD

Pachall did all he could against the Steers totaling nearly 400 yards of total offense. The Lion defense gave up over 600 yards of offense to the Case McCoy led Steers. The playoffs hopes are not gone, but a win is a must this week.

Jurell Thompson

Game stats: 17 rush 73 yards 1 TD(26)

2008 stats: 47 carries 210 yards 3 TD's, 3 catches 9 yards, 2 interceptions

Thompson and his Rider teammates will wrap up their fourth consecutive district title with another win. In a battle of the two first place teams last week, Thompson helped the Rider ground game with 73 yards in his first action in two weeks.

Game stats: 13 carries 204 yards 3 TD (78, 68, 7); 3 catches 46 yards

2008 stats: 111 carries 1,360 yards 19 TD; 19 catches 251 yards 3 TD

James helped his team move to 5-0 in district 9-4A. Playing sparingly once again, James managed to rack up over 200 yards rushing and is averaging an amazing 12.2 yards per carry on the year.

Malcolm Williams

Game stats: 0 tackles

2008 stats: 28 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception (75, TD), 2 KO returns 77 yards, 5 PR 36 yards

Williams and his Cardinal teammates got back on the winning side of things with the victory over Tyler.

Tanner Brock

School: Copperas Cove

Game stats: 15 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 PBU, 1 sack

2008 stats: 125 total tackles, 3FF, 15 TFL's, 1 INT, 1 PBU, 1 Sack, 3 rush 56 yards 2 TD

The Dawgs moved to 8-0 on the year (its first year in 5A). Brock had another big game with another double-digit tackle performance.

Justin Isadore

School: Beaumont Ozen

Game stats: 20 tackles, 1 FR

2008 stats: 101 tackles; 3 FF, 1 PBU, 1 FR

Isadore and his Ozen teammates lost to crosstown rival Central. In the loss, Isadore had another strong performance on the defense, leading them with 20 tackles in the game.

John Wooldridge

Position: OL

School: Bellaire Episcopal

Ht: 6-5 | Wt: 290

Team record: 5-2

Last week: W35-21 vs. Oklahoma City Casady

Game stats: 5 pancakes, 10 drive blocks

2008 stats: 51 pancakes, 51 drive blocks, 0 sacks allowed; 1 sack on defense

Episcopal faced its second consecutive opponent from the state of Oklahoma, this time beating OKC Casady. Wooldridge had his way with the Casady d-line and was pulled in the 4th quarter in the team's big homecoming win.

2008 stats: 43 carries 414 yards 7 TD; 4 catches 26 yards, 22 tackles, 5 TFL, 1 sack, 4 knockdowns, 2 pancakes,

Another week, another win for the Maud Cardinals. Dunbar went over 400 yards on the season in the win over Bowie.

2008 stats: 37 tackles, 11 TFL, 4 sacks, 10 hurries, 5 FF, 47 knockdowns, 13 pancakes, 17/20 PAT, 1 rush 2 yards

Burns collected an amazing 21 knockdowns on offense. Not to be outdone, he also collected 4 tackles and 3 QB hurries on defense.

Team record: 8-0 (#1 in class A)

Game stats: 7 knockdowns, 4 pancakes, 2 tackles, 2 hurries

2008 stats: 36 tackles, 6 TFL, 10 hurries, 32 knockdowns, 14 pancakes

House had another big week on the offensive line collecting 4 pancakes. House also hurried the Simms Bowie signal callers two times on the night.

Josh Boyce

Game stats: 2 catches 41 yards 1 TD(33) 1 KO RET TD (79), 1 int

2008 stats: 29 catches 694 yards 8 TD

One of the most underrated prospects in the state helped his team to another big win. Boyce didn't have as many receiving yards as the previous week, but he scored his eighth receiving touchdown. Boyce also added a 79 yard kickoff return for a score and an interception.

Trenton Thomas

School: Brenham

Ht: 5-11 | Wt: 194

Team record: 4-3

Last week: W28-7 vs. Conroe Caney Creek

2008 stats: 85 tackles, 1 sack

The Cubs picked up their third consecutive victory and moved into second place in district 18-4A. The win also solidified a return to the playoffs for the Cubs.

Game stats: 4 pancakes, 6 knockdowns, 0 sacks allowed

2008 stats: 35 pancakes, 40 knockdowns, 0 sacks allowed

Tausch and his Ranger teammates ran into perhaps the team playing the best football in the state right now, the Allen Eagles. Tausch still had a strong performance collecting 4 pancakes and not allowing a sack.

LB from brook wins player of the week noone says anything isadore have the same stats as him this week and people hate..........you cats are ridiculous he had 20 tackles last game and picked up a fumble on the 1st play of the game.......... and he has 101 for the season

adorian underwood won lastweek............ he "supposedly" had 20 tackles and a forced fumble he won the award and noone said anything at all give my guy the same respect please i dont understand why all the hate??

dont know how many TFL......and central barely passes the ball so no sacks for him
