Guest coachacola Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Anyone wanting to watch some quality golf with a strong Southeast Texas flavor might give some thought to attending a day or two of the upcoming PGA Tour Qualfying School second stage at Deerwood Golf Club near Houston. At least three players with strong area ties — Lamar exes Shawn Stefani and Dawie Van Der Walt and Orange’s Michael Arnaud — qualifed for the Nov. 12-15 event last week over the Forest Course at the Clubs of Kingwood. A fourth, LU ex Chris Stroud, may also be teeing it up at Deerwood. Stefani, who played at Lamar when Stroud was there, punched his ticket by finishing 8th in a Q School first-stage field of 77 with a 72-hole score of six-under 282. Van Der Walt, the No. 1 player when LU finished third in the NCAA two years ago, was 14th at 285. Link: http://www.panews.com/sportsgolf/local_story_303000742.html
