Lamar Puts Scare Into Stephen F. Austin Before Falling 1-0

A scare? Sure, the score was 1-0, but SFA outshot Lamar 23-2 in the game and a 9-2 advantage for the Jacks on the corner kicks. SFA dominated the game.

And now the Kats host the Cards on Sunday. SHSU needs a win in order to make sure we do not have to wait on the SLU/Nicholls result to make sure we are in the SLC tournament. SHSU is coming off a 3-0 win over McNeese, that's league-leading McNeese. Senior Day.

I'm predicting a Kats win, though Lamar may put a scare on us, even if we outshoot them by 15-20.  ;D

The game was scoreless for the first 45 minutes so I wouldn't say SFA was dominating the game.

Coachacola, quick soccer lesson...if a team is out-shooting another 23-2, has a corner kick advantage of 9-2, four more offsides...that means that one team was controlling the offensive possession throughout the game. SFA completely dominated in all of those categories, just could not score a goal. LU made it look good because they had nine saves and most of those shots were not on goal, but the Jacks were on their offensive end most of the game and LU was on the defensive end.

Stats like that do not lie in soccer...

I'm not trying to put down Lamar, just stating that the story is a bit misleading, figured I'd provide direction...  :)

Soccer is like any other sport, it's the final score that counts.  In football, a team can dominate the time of posession, or first downs, or any other stat you like, but if the scored is tied going into the 4th quarter and the "dominating" team only wins by a field goal, it silly to say one team dominated the other.  A dominating performance is when a team wins 50-0 in football or 7-0 in soccer and the game is basically over as soon as it begins.  I don't need any of your "direction".  ::)

Lamar won't score a goal if the ball is on their side of the field the whole time...wouldn't call it a 'score'. And soccer is not like football. You can clearly say a team got dominated in an even a tie. Just go on to those MLS fan boards (bigsoccer.com), ask a head coach after a tie or any of that -- they'll tell you they got dominated if they did.

Lamar did not put a scare, outside of keeping the scoreboard close, which is as you acknowledge, the only thing you are familiar with. They got dominated on the field.

regardless, this is another good result.  the defense is learning how to hold strong against much more talented teams.  if lamar can continue to improve, these "scares" where they get "dominated", might turn into scares where they squeak out wins.

Just does not need to come tomorrow -- Kats need a 'W' to go to the SLC tournament. They are playing good soccer now and could make some noise if they get there...
