ANAHUAC – The Anahuac Panthers dominated the Warren Warriors 53-0 Friday night.

Anahuac showed its strength early with an interception by freshman Justin Albritton and a 10-yard touchdown run by senior Deior McNeil three minutes into the game.

Over the last eight minutes of the first quarter, Albritton had two more interceptions, one he returned for a touchdown, and McNeil ran for two more.

At halftime, McNeil had four touchdowns and 176 yards rushing, Braxton Mayes had two receptions for 57 yards, one rushing touchdown, and a two-point conversion, and senior quarterback Jacob Pesina had 58 yards passing with one touchdown.

In the third quarter, Anahuac scored one final time on a 10-play, 49-yard drive, with a three-yard touchdown run by Omar Teran.

The Panthers, 6-2 for the season, ended up with 413 total yards, including 345 rushing yards accumulated by nine different runners.

On the defensive side, the Panthers only 83 total yards, held the Warriors scoreless and caused five turnovers.

“We played really well tonight,†Panthers head coach Darrell Barbay said after the game.

“We protected the ball real well, and made very key turnovers … especially at the beginning of the game.

“We did good on both sides really. Defense gave up no points, that’s always good, and the offense scored a heck of a lot. We also came out of the game with no injuries, which is always a good thing, especially with Buna next week.â€

Buna and Anahuac are tied for the lead in District 23-2A at 4-0 and their game next week in Buna is likely for the title.

“Next week we play for the district championship, and I think that this win really geared us up for that game,†Barbay said.
