vhs Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Here is my rundown of the unoffial Game of the Week for the STJFL. This game took place in Kountze between the visiting Vidor Pee Wee Gold team and the Pee Wee Kountze Lions. Both of these teams went into this battle looking for their FIRST victory of the season. The teams battled to a 14-14 tie in regulation. They then went into overtime. Kountze struck first in overtime with a touchdown but failed to convert the extra point. Vidor quickly tied the game back up at 20-20 with a touchdown of their own, but were also unable to convert the extra point. Kountze then stopped Vidor in their attempt at a DOUBLE OVERTIME score. The Kountze offense tookover and put the game away with another touchdown to make the final score 26-20. The Lions walked away with the victory today, but I got to say this was one of those games where there truly was no losers. The Vidor kids were excited to really be IN a game all the way to the bitter end. Before today our boys had only scored once and had lost their games by a minimum of 26 points. I was very proud of our Vidor boys today. They never gave up. We put together 20pts today, and it felt like a million. Great job to all our kids. They played as a team, and had a great time. Congratulations to the Lions on the victory today. I could tell they were very excited to get the win under their belts. Those boys played hard and had fun. Todays game wasn't about making it to the playoffs or winning the League Championship, but both teams played their hearts out and had a great time. James McDowell Asst. Coach Vidor Pee Wee Gold

Thanks Corey, I hate to hear how yalls game ended.
piratefan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 We got warned that it would be bad, but I never thought it would be that bad. I am glad to hear your boys played hard..that's all you can ask for..
Guest Penny Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 good job James and congrats..you are correct there aren't any losers in a game like that.. we lost 14-12.. we played nederland gold and the refs..the refs scored the go ahead touchdown.. That's funny, the way those people acted during and after the game wasn't. I'd be extremely embarrassed to be associated with that.

I assume you are talking about the nederland people? there was alot of tempers at the end..Maybe because there was bite marks on the kids stomach.I would be mad also if I was the parent of that child.so i would be extremely embarrassed If i was to be associated with that. And I love the coaches answer.."Hey that's football"..
Guest Penny Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Hey if that happened, then yes it's embarrassing, but how does one bite through a face mask?
piratefan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I thought about that too, but there was bite marks on the kid. look we can go on all day about the refs or whatever happened at the game. But I tell you what.If any day or time anyone would like a rematch we would love to go at it again minus the the three stooges ..
Guest Penny Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 More concerning is the comment, hey that's not footbal, especially at 9/10 years old. Football is a violent collision sport. Biting is what my toddler did when she teethed, grow up a little.

Guest Penny Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Whoever said biting is a part of the game, that's stupid. Biting is what babies do to cut their teeth.
piratefan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I agree.there was alot going both ways. And I am all for it being a hard hitting physical game. But the refs were incredible.I knew it was going to be bad, but in my wildest dreams I never thought it would turnout the way it did.
Guest Penny Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I was at the game, but not being very close don't see everything. What was going on that has the Vidor folks so worked up?
piratefan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I was at the game, but not being very close don't see everything. What was going on that has the Vidor folks so worked up? I dont have enough room to type. plus all it will do is start world war 3 on here.So I will say mostly it was the refs and then toward the end there was some other things happen. I will leave it at that for now.
Guest Penny Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Probably best, but man some of the coaches didn't handle whatever happened very well.
piratefan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I am one of the coaches.during the game I let the referes know what a good job they were doing. But after the game a few things were said and done and some of our coaches/parents weren't happy about what had happened to there child. I think both sides maybe could have handled there self better including the nederlands coaching staff along with ours
piratefan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Probably best, but man some of the coaches didn't handle whatever happened very well. when you are up 12-6 late in the 4th qtr and the refs make or dont make certain calls and as a coach you feel its one sided ,there is a little frustration involved.
Guest Penny Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Well said, thanks and good luck the rest of the season.
piratefan Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Well said, thanks and good luck the rest of the season. good luck to you as well
player66 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 The refs were bad. You cant blame either team. Hey, what was the deal with the taunting call? The nederland player stuck out the ball before crossing the goal, the score should have counted bit the refs took the td away, Wrong call, td should have counted.
OldNedDog Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 pirate, I'm not trying to start a war on here. But was it so bad and frustrating that it justifies one of your coaches teaching "get in there and grab his facemask and pull him to the ground as hard as you can" I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I agree the refs were not very good, but I would be willing to bet they missed calls on each side. No matter how bad it is, we can't afford to teach the kids lessons like that.

I was told it was a holding call by two refs, one ref even signaled a holding call ..but they said the TD didnt count.. they were horrible and theydidn tknow what they were doing.

I didn't say that, and I didn't hear a coach say it.But if it was said then it was wrong Look I dont want to get in a war on here about she said he said. There was alot of stuff that could have been handled differently.Including from the nederland side.besides the refs it was a good game i thought

football04 Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 There wasn't any holding call, they said it was taunting before he crossed the goal line, which is a penalty, but marked off on the kick off or extra point, the touchdown should have counted. We played Vidor in Vidor last week and the ref's were not very informed on the rules as well, after a safety they spotted the ball at the 30yd line.
