LamarStatesports Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Lamar State College-Port Arthur opened the 2008-09 season Monday with a 78-74 road victory over Southern University-Shreveport. Five Seahawks tallied in double figures, led by sophomore guard Jemel Douriso with 19 points, sophomore forward George Williamson with 18 and freshman forward Adrian Fontentot with 11. Freshman forwards Jacoby Joseph and Stephen Moten each score 10 poins. Head coach Jerre Cole was pleased overall with his team's performance, but he did see some areas that need work, such as the 31 times the Seahawks committed turnovers. Lamar State shot 38 pecent overall for the game (44% field goals, 29% on 3's) and hit on 67 percent of their free throws as they gave the Port City Jags their first home loss since 2004. The Seahawks will be back in action Thursday at Lone Star College-Kingwood before their home opener next Tuesday against Southern U-Shreveport, starting at 7 p.m. in the Carl Parker Center.
