Guest mffl Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Talk about it in the Message Boards Katy (Texas) Morton Ranch athlete Joe Mitchell (6-3, 215, 4.5) already holds offers from Kentucky, Tulane, UTEP, and Lamar but several others appear to be close. "I know my coach told me Boston College is going to offer soon," said Mitchell. "I think they said after they get me up there on a visit and Missouri said they were going to offer." Joe Mitchell liked what he saw on his unofficial to Baylor and is looking forward to checkout out others It also looks like Baylor could add their name to his list. "[Coach Kendall Briles] said they really like me as an athlete," said Mitchell. "He's being honest with me. He said they didn't need another quarterback because they have the freshman quarterback (Robert Griffin) so they don't know if they want me as a receiver or a defensive back. "So he said they're going to try and get me up there to talk to all the coaches and there should be one soon because they're looking for receivers 6-3 and above." He has already had a chance to take in the Bears and came away impressed with what he saw. "The campus to me was really nice and just the fans they were good. They were funny," said Mitchell. "The game I went to was Iowa St. and they had this little Borat guy and he said 'Me no likey the Cyclones.'" He has also developed a solid relationship with coach Kendall Briles. "We have a pretty good relationship," said the Morton Ranch standout. "We talk about anything and he's really laid back, which I like because I'm a laid back person. So we get along." Baylor was the first school he was able to check out but look for him to take a few more visits in the near future. "Right now I'm going to go out to Boston College and Florida - the Florida Gators called me and they want me out on a visit - Utah, Kentucky, and Missouri," he said. "So I'm going to go out there and see those schools I guess." Mitchell is also hearing from the likes of Navy, Iowa St., Oklahoma St., and New Mexico, and while he is playing quarterback at Morton Ranch he is receiving most of his looks at receiver and free safety. However, one school is talking about quarterback. "Boston College, they told me they wanted me as a quarterback," said Mitchell. Does he have a preference as to where he lines up on the college level? "No, I'm not really sure. I mean I don't really care as long as I get a scholarship and I like the school," said Mitchell. On the football field Mitchell has led the Mavericks to a 6-3 record, and is looking to make history this weekend. "We won our district game against Katy Taylor last week 42-24, and all we've got to do is beat Mayde Creek Friday and we've got our first playoff spot in school history," said Mitchell. "Hopefully we can do that and make a deep run in the playoffs." Morton Ranch and Mayde Creek are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Rhodes Memorial Stadium.
