KFDM COOP Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Pack the "Mac" for Lamar-Texas State Volleyball Mike Friedman BEAUMONT - As the Lamar University volleyball team hosts the Texas State Bobcats at 7 p.m. Friday, in a showdown between the top two teams in Southland Conference, fans are encouraged to "Pack the Mac" to set a new LU attendance record. Lamar will be looking to set a new attendance record when the Lady Cards and Bobcats meet. The current record for attendance was set on Oct. 10, when LU hosted UTSA on Pick Out McDonald Gym night for breast cancer awareness, as 617 fans filled the gym. A $150 prize will be given to the student organization that shows the most spirit and a competition at halftime will give several fans an opportunity to win prizes. The Lady Cardinals enter Friday's contest with an 11-9 overall record and a 9-2 record in SLC play after falling to UTSA last Saturday in San Antonio, Texas. Texas State comes into the match with an 18-12 overall record and an 11-1 mark in SLC play, riding an eight match win streak. Lamar is led by Shalayne Blythe's 2.23 kills and 0.76 blocks per set, while Genevieve Gladle who is averaging 2.19 kills and 2.86 digs per set. Lauren Holdorff is averaging 2.06 kills and a team-high 0.86 blocks per set while ranking first in the Southland Conference in hitting percentage in league play at .398. Ashley Todd has paced the LU attack with 9.38 assists per set and Andrea Hamilton leads the defense with 3.56 digs per set. Texas State is led by Jessica Weynand and Lawrencia Brown who are averaging 2.70 and 2.30 kills per set respectively, while Brittany Collins and Shelbi Irvin have split the setting duties with averages of 6.06 assists and 3.99 assists per set respectively. The Bobcat defense is led by Brown who is averaging 2.61 digs per set. After the showdown with Texas State the Lady Cards will host UT-Arlington on Saturday at 3 p.m. to close out the weekend.
