With the inception of Westside HS(2002 I believe), most if not all of the football players opted to go to the new school leaving Lee with nothing so HISD dropped the program. They didn't win much anyway so it wasn't a big loss

That still makes me sick. I would have loved to have 30 kids on my team. we did it with 14 w/o a district. I only got a break between 1st and 2nd quarters....half time I had to march with the band. :cry:

Well, as now a 16 year resident of Houston, I can tell you that as a community, there is not the fervor for football that there is in SE Texas. Lee has been without a football program for several years now. If you go by the school you can see that it really doesn't have the space to support most sports, much less football.

Quite frankly, I am surprised that a few more schools around HISD have not closed down their football programs.
