Lamar Announces 2009 Baseball Schedule

The 2009 Lamar baseball season will feature 36 home games, 16 home Southland Conference contests and midweek matchups in southeast Texas with longtime rivals Houston, Louisiana-Monroe and Rice, as announced by head coach Jim Gilligan Tuesday.

LU will get plenty of time to work out the kinks early. Seems like all of their better games come after spring break...getting to 40 wins would be easy if this schedule held up for the remainder of the season. Gilligan is one of the better coaches in the league, but I've never really been a fan of his scheduling habits.

How strong is the SLC supposed to be this year? Outside of 'schedule watching', I can't say I know too much about the teams other than SHSU -- who returns quite a few arms from last year, just depends on how quickly the bats come around.

That's a pretty weak schedule compared to recent years, and I'm disappointed that there's no tournament on the schedule.  I've really enjoyed the tournaments in recent years.
