Lazeek Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Here is just a one sentence observation of everyone involved in the game tonight. Coach Roc--Growing to love him more each and every game (F this and F that and tuck your S in)!!!!!! Coach Tic--Dresses way to nice for a assistant. Coach Honea--Please do something with that comb over. Coach Kermit--Time for the black suede shoes to go. Coach Sylvi--Shortest coach in NCAA history. Coach Lawrence--?????????? Brown--Need more nights like tonight on the glass. Custer--Still a work in progress. Hall--Getting closer to being 100%. Riley--Looked like and played like a high school player. Mahoney--What happened? Worrell--What more can you say about this kid. Dawkins--A true PG and maybe the best PG ever at LU. McThay--Already in mid-season form. Williams--Explosive. Looks like he has healed completely from his ACL injury of a few years ago. Miles--Will be fine by mid-season. Harper--Could be the next AD if he can get a outside shot. Nwevo--We need him back soon. Ybarra--I left before he got in but heard he had a nice dunk. Pace--I left before he got in. Bob Thewman--Mid-Season form for him tonight. What is up with the porn star moustache? ;D ;D All in all we had good and bad moments tonight against a team that is not very good. Need to make some strides defensively and work on the long ball. We shot plenty of them, but not too many fell. When was the last time that LU only made 6 long balls?
BLUEDOVE3 Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Quickest LU team I've seen in a long time. Other than that, their season is going to be up and down. The team they played tonight must have been a low D111 school.
LUFAN Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Dove again you are the eternal pessimist. This team is as I said before better than last year. The next 2 games will give us a hint at what the season is going to be like. I think that we have some good young players on this team which is very very good news. I am tired of 2 years and then gone with the JUCO players. I believe that ROC is setting this program up well for the long run.. We just need to make sure we pay him well so we can keep him. If we can win against ULL and Denver we will have way more momentum than we did last year dropping a lot of games early... especially when we had the lead... I think that the team was playing down a bit just because of the opponent and I do not think that the team had a sense of urgency..
Guest abovetherim Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 The team will be 8-9 deep in the rotation and Coach Roc played the whole team. If he stayed true to only playing 8-9 guys the score would have been even worse. The last great LU team tallest starter was all of 6-6. His name was Kenneth Perkins. Maybe you heard of his son? I like this team!
Lazeek Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 Rim I did not see you last night. Did you get new seats again this year?

I said this team is one of the quickest teams I've seen since I've been watching LU off and on for the past 20 years. But you really can't judge this team based on the competition from last night. I've seen high school guards with better skills than those two point guards I saw last night.
Guest coachacola Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Last year LU blew out LeTourneau University which is in the same DIII conference as La College to start the season, then lost 6 straight games to D1 opponents, and that was with a veteran lineup. You could say this year's team has more potential because it's a younger team and Nwevo will rejoin the team next month (although I'm not sure how much playing time he'll get). But anytime you start 2 freshman you have to be a little nervous and be prepared for some bad nights. It will be interesting to see how well this team does against really big teams and those teams with good quick guards. LU should be just fine when they start conference play, I just hope they have a decent record at that time.

If this team can come out and hit their open shots and wear down the bigger teams with their spped, I think they have a chance. Also, there is no way LU can depend on Brown(?) hitting the boards for them without some help.
badndn Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Since gaurd play is essential to compete in the NCAA and the SLC specifically, I see this group doing pretty well come conference time. I think the Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis core will be tough. Those guys have the gaurds to match us and the bulk down low to overpower us. I really like the foundation for the future. Miles, Harper and Williams will make up a very dinamic 1-2-3 in a couple of seasons. Add a shot blocking big man and a rebounding 4 and this group could be a serious NCAA threat in 2011 (by that I mean 1 or 2 rounds). This is the best I have felt about the future in some time since we have been so loaded with JC talent lately. I think Roc has gotten it right. He went JC to build early and set a tone with experience and is slowly mixing in more, better HS talent now with the program up. This will pay off with experience and continuity.

MEMPHIS, Louisville and Kentucky will not match LU guards. They will overpower the LU guards along with their frontline. Games like these are good for low mid major schools like LU. It gives the players or should give players added confidence to compete in their conference play, where it really matters. If Roc contiunes to schedule these type of schools, it's going to look good for recruiting whenever they go after a big man who lacks D-1 skills, but is coachable and promising. Good moves by Roc.
