Five LU Volleyball Players Earn All Conference Honors

BEAUMONT - After finishing in second place in the Southland Conference West division, five Lamar University volleyball players earned all-conference honors, as announced by the conference office today.

Middle blocker Lauren Holdorff, a junior from Friendswood, Texas, was named first team all-conference after finishing second in the conference in hitting percentage at .392 in conference play and was just one of seven players in the league to hit over .300 for the year with a .301 hitting percentage. She finished the regular season with 194 kills and was the team leader in blocks with 84.

Senior setter Ashley Todd was named second team all-conference after running the Lady Cardinals offense for the majority of the season. The Corpus Christi, Texas native averaged 8.52 assists per set for the year which ranked eighth in the conference. Her 801 assists moved her to sixth in the schools all time list with 2,822.

Kaci Brewer, a junior outside hitter from Castroville, Texas, joined Todd on the second team after leading the LU offense in kills during SLC play. She finished conference play with 170 kills for a 2.74 kills per set average, while ranking third on the team in digs with 148 during league play. For the year she knocked down 207 kills and collected 186 digs and tied for the team lead with five double-doubles.

Shalayne Blythe and Genevieve Gladle picked up honorable mention all-conference honors for their roles in the Lady Cardinals run to the No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament

Blythe, a senior middle blocker from Port Neches, Texas, led the team with 215 kills on the year, while her 2.24 kills per set ranked second on the team behind Brewer. She was also a force at the net for Lamar, ranking second on the team in blocks with 77 on the year, while finishing eighth in SLC play with 55 for a .90 blocks per set average.

Gladle, a sophomore outside hitter from Lakeway, Texas, was the only Lady Cardinals player to register 20 or more kills in a match this season, doing so twice against UT Arlington. She finished the regular season ranked third on the team in kills with 197 and second in digs 260, while tying Brewer with the team lead of five double-doubles.
