KFDM COOP Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Mustang teams notch victories From Orange Leader Sports The Orange Leader Coach Callie Orebo and the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs were able to celebrate the program’s first win in two years Tuesday night. The Lady Mustangs improved to 1-1 on the year with a 41-38 victory over the Hemphill Lady Hornets. Denetrius Heard led the Lady Mustangs with 19 points while Ryhaniqua Winbush finished with eight. The Lady Mustangs jumped out early and led 19-17 after the first period. Hemphill then took the led before the break and had a 25-21 advantage into half-time. WO-S then outscored Hemphill 14-6 in the third period as the Lady Mustangs led 35-31 heading into the final frame. The Lady Mustangs were able to hang on in the final minutes even after being outscored 7-6 in the fourth. WO-S fell to Jasper on Friday in the team’s season opener, 57-43. The Lady Mustangs will participate in the Nederland Lady Bulldogs’ Classic this weekend. WO-S will first face Beaumont Kelly 7 p.m. Thursday.
