It seems like the Dogs are doing poorly in low-scoring games so far ( by poorly I mean, losing). I know Memorial is bound to have a good defense, but was this low scoring game due to a poor shooting performance of Nederland? Or was the defense just that spectacular?

Congrats to Memorial with the victory. The titans offensively and defensively out rebounded the Dogs. The score was low because Memorial held onto the ball alot in the 2nd half after they built up an 8 or 10 point lead. I really think there should be a shot clock in high school

Dogs have to eliminate the turnovers...this was a very winnable game for them, but they will be fine as English settles on his rotation as district approaches...he certainly has this program moving in the right direction...to even be competetive with Memorial a few years back would have been a joke, much less have a chance to win...i like the direction of the program.

Very true. The second string is getting a lot more minutes than they will in district. They are all juniors and have no experience on the varsity level. Thats where a majority of Nederlands turnovers are coming from. They will get better and cut down on the give aways as the season continues on. But give Memorial credit, they completely shut down Chris Hammond and Francis Torres. They were completely smothered the entire game. Chris didn't score and Francis only got a couple transition baskets. Memorial made someone else score besides the two stars and no one was able step up enough for the win.

Playing teams that can shut down the main scorers is good for the Dogs early in the season. The rest of the team can make baskets, and the tough games like this one will help them in the long run when they are forced to put points on the board. Nederland is definitely going to have one of their best seasons in a long time. *knocks on wood*

Let's don't blame the turnovers on the young guys. Most of the turnovers are being made by the players that have been on varsity for three years. If the bulldogs are going to make it to the playoffs, this has got to stop.
