hockeyfan Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 And don't forget the Texas Wildcatters Fan Club: http://www.texaswildcattersfanclub.com The Texas Wildcatters Fan Club is an un-official club for fans of the Texas Wildcatters hockey team. There are no meetings or dues, just fun among fans without the politics of a booster club.
PigskinDiva Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 The Texas Wildcatters Booster Club was created to assist with supporting the Texas Wildcatters. We are much more than a fan club; we are the Team behind the Team. Here are just a few of the things the booster club offers members and provides the team. We purchase and provide road trip supplies (bottled water, snacks, fruit) for the team when they hit the road for a game. We also purchase and provide household supplies for their apartments (towels, sheets, cookware, small appliances, dishes, glassware, etc). We present the players with awards such as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Month. We have several parties for the team, organization and booster members through out the season such as Meet and Greet Party, X-Mas Party and End of Season Party. We offer to members our Adopt a Player program, which enables family members to adopt one of the players from the team, and gives that family the opportunity to get to know the player on a more individual basis, included in the program is “Family Fun Nights Out†of bowling and miniature golf with your adopted player. Members have the opportunity to meet the team, individual players and the staff and be more involved with the team and staff than just the typical fan. We also have donated to several local charities throughout the last few seasons with funds raised throughout the year. We have the opportunity this season to provide funds to send individual players to specialized training camps. We have Pot Luck Dinners (home cooked items prepared by members) at the arena for the team after some home games and provide and serve breakfast during training camp to the team and coaching staff. If any of this sounds exciting to you or your family then don't wait, join the booster club and help out the Texas Wildcatters with some southern hospitality. Membership applications can be found at www.thetexaswildcattersboosterclub.com or contact any booster club officer. One last thing...here is a letter from Coach Cameron about the booster club inviting others to participate: :::August 25, 2006 Dear Fans, I would like to thank all those fans that have supported the Wildcatters in the past and continued thanks as we approach the new season. For those who may have some extra time on their hands and would like to be more involved with the club, there is a way to help the team more closely. This is through the Texas Wildcatters Booster Club. It is a fun way to meet new friends, meet the players and staff more closely and volunteer to help the coach and players make things run easier. The Wildcatters Booster Club is involved in a lot of fun and rewarding activities such as Road Trips, Adopt a Player, fund raising drives for charities and more importantly help raise awareness of the game of hockey in South East Texas. So if you find yourself with a little extra time on your hands join the Booster Club, it will be lots of fun. Sincerely, Malcolm Cameron Head Coach / Vice President of Hockey Operations:::: PigskinDiva "Give a man an inch, and he thinks he's a Ruler"
hockeyfan Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 No offense(I think Booster Clubs do a great job with helping), but the majority of the players I have talked to have said that they hate going to the BC events. They feel forced to go to "yet another function..." and they don't like people butting into their personal lives under the facade of a group. This isn't necessarily my opinion, but the opinion of a LOT of hockey players in this league. Every team DOES need a Booster Club, and I think it's terrific what you guys are doing. The reason why we have the Fan Club, is so that people don't have to pay and join a club just to support the team. We don't have any "officers" or "staff", because if you have too many Chiefs and not enough Indians...well...that can spell trouble. I never said that the Fan Club was the place to go to meet hockey players. It's just a place for hockey fans(either casual or obsessed) to come together and support the team. There's no special events to meet the guys. We just treat them like regular people and they appreciate it. Just like other hockey fans, we, too, spread the word about hockey. I contact the media when every Wildcatters signing is released, I post on tons of forums(almost to the point of spam, huh Coop? ), I sometimes find myself wearing hockey t-shirts(or even jerseys) just to run errands around town. Like I will always say, it doesn't matter how many groups there are; we're all here for the hockey. All of us stick up for the team and go to the games and cheer as loud as we can, no matter how bad the team loses. Now then, who's ready for some hockey?!
PigskinDiva Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 We can all agree that we are all "fans" and that our respective groups have their place with the Wildcatter Organization. I can't tell you the opinions of the players because I don't have or need that personal of a relationship with them. I'm simply there to support the team and their endeavors. Fortunately, Coach Cameron understands our role in the organization and what our goals are this season. With his support, maybe this season the players won't "feel forced" to attend anything and will actually want to attend instead. With the new faces on the team this year, perhaps we'll have fresh attitudes and less egos......and more wins. Afterall, winning games is what the fans want to see. Booster club or no booster club....fan club or no fan club. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if not one player acknowledged any of us this season and simply focused on giving the fans what we would like to see......a winning season, for once.

tazcatter Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Diva, I understand your point of view, however the "Booster Club" is not the only organization and/or group who have "fed the players", "provided household items" or assisted them with their stay in SE Texas. I know of several people (Non BC members) who have opened their homes to the players, so they have a place to get away from the spotlight, who have picked players up at the airport, taken them to the airport when they have been recalled to the AHL and provided transportation to the players and their families. I don't have anything against the BC, but as I've said several times, you don't have to join the BC to be a FAN.
PigskinDiva Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 No one said you had to join the BC to do any of those things. The only point of my post was to let those that don't know what the BC does be more informed and perhaps join us if they want. No one is obligated to do anything. It was an informational post. Nothing more, nothing less. Please do not make it more than that. I don't believe we are in competition. The only individuals that should be competing are the guys on the ice.
tazcatter Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 No problem...just wanted to make the point that you don't have to be a member of ANY club to help the team out. Let's just play HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
